Nose Surgery: Q&A

Ask a Question

What is a Better Choice? Straight or SLIGHTLY Sloped Nose?

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions on RealSelf. I have read/heard both verdicts for a woman's profile. Some say that a completely straight nose looks too masculine and operated for women, yet the other side says that a slight slope can have negative effects on your nose and look unnatural as well. I am curious to know what you all think. Is a slight slope better in some cases? Or is a straight nose the better way to go? Thank you for your time. I appreciate it.

Straight vs Slightly Scouped Profile

I prefer a well defined strong nose for women. Either a straight or slightly scooped profile are excellent for a lady depending on several factors. In a woman 6' tall I'd prefer a straight profile as opposed to a short woman where a slightly scooped profile would be better. Let's not ignore the importance of patient preference. Both choices are acceptable.

Rhinoplasty

There’s no easy answer to this question, as I always make my determination in concert with the patient and taking into consideration the total facial symmetries and contours. If a female patient asked for a specific type of nose, and I felt that it would not fit with her facial features, I would certainly advise against it. Jonathan Ross Berman, M.D. , F.A.C.S.

Straight or slightly sloped nasal bridge

For a woman’s profile we like a very slightly sloped bridge line. Please refer to our rhinoplasty photo gallery at the link below. We believe a very slight in-slope with a supratip dip is a very natural-appearing nose and does not look operated upon. A straight profile is acceptable on a male rhinoplasty.
