Thanks for your question. It is best not to drive the day of surgery or even 2 days after surgery. It is not safe to drive. All the best,Dr. ResultsMiami, FL
Hello, in my clinic and hospital we advise patients to avoid driving for a minimum of 24 hours after surgery, or longer if they are taking any narcotic pain medications. You also should not drive if you are in pain or stiff, since you may not be able to react normally in an urgent situation. Always check with your surgeon about driving and other activity restrictions.
Thank you for your question. I think this is a pretty straightforward question: no. I would not drive for the first few days for a number of reasons….narcotics and sedatives from the surgery itself, narcotic pain pills after surgery and pain or discomfort that could slow down your reaction time. Give it a good 2-4 days and make sure you are off narcotic pain pills before driving.
It would not be safe to drive for at least 18 hours after anesthesia to let the effects wear off completely, and I do not let people drive for 48 hours even if they are off narcotics, because a sudden movement could conceivably result in a hematoma. I am aware of a patient who was stopped for a DUI not from alcohol, but from prescription pain medications.
Hi... Thank you for the question.... I do not suggest driving for 15 days after Breast augmentation due to complications like seromas, hematomas and implants diaplace
Hi. I would cauiton you against driving this early on in the process. Your surgeon should require you to have someone drive you to and from the surgery center. In Florida, this is the law. It is irresponsible on your part to drive that early on and you may cause yourself a great eal of harm. Good luck, Dr. PG
Where I trained (Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN) most people came in from a 500 mile radius. Of course you can be driven home, driving after breast augmentation can occur with 48 hours as long as one feels well and takes no medications.
Thank You for your question. The anesthesia normally will remain in your system for 24 hours following your procedure. You also may be taking narcotics. Therefore I would advise my patients not to drive while under these conditions. Typically in my practice I allow my patients to drive in 1 weeks time. Important conditions include being off all narcotics and feeling as though you have full control of your vehicle should you need to make a sudden stop or avoid an accident. Every patient is different in terms of soreness/pain post breast augmentation. It is important however to follow the specific directions of your surgeon.
Absolutely not. In fact, surgery centers will not release you if you do not have a ride home from your breast augmentation, not even to a taxi. I also require you to have a ride bring you to your post-op appointment the very next day and typically allow you to drive on your own after about 4-5 days as long as you are healing well and not taking any pain medication. ac
First of all thank you for the question. It is not advised to drive on the same day of your surgery. I recommend not driving for at least 3-7 days due to the general anesthesia and pain medication. My patients must have someone drive them home from surgery and must have a responsible adult caring for them for the first 24 hours. If you have further questions or concerns with this issue, I recommend discussing this with your surgeon. Best of Luck.
