Chemical Burn to Arms and Legs

i have chemical burn scars on my forearms and shins accompanied by some discoloration to large brown patches of surrounding skin. the scars themselves are not too bad but the uneven surfaces and dark pigmentation are very very ugly and prevent me from wearing short sleaves or skirts without knee high socks.
The scars are about two yrs old and have improved drastically in that time but i am sure that even with more time my skin will never improve enough to look nice or normal again. what can i do?
