I have platysmal cording and hard lumps under my chin from neck lift 13 weeks ago. It keeps getting worse and not better as my Dr. stated it would with time. Dr. suggested massaging it gently twice a day which I have done religously. I have attached pictures. Will I need a revision or is there something I can do to fix this? Its very noticeable and I am very unhappy with the result.
Answer: Did you have laser assisted liposuction concurrent with the facelift? There appears to be significant swelling within the skin. Some of those is expected after a facelift. Thermal damage created by a laser or ultrasound can create a problem that will take considerably longer to resolve. Do You know whether or not the skin was treated with a laser or ultrasound?

CONTACT NOW Answer: How do I fix this or will it go away? It is still early in the healing process to tell if a revision will be necessary. Please keep up the massages as suggested by your surgeon and continue to follow up with them.

Answer: 13 weeks out........... this is clearly a distressing issue for you. However 13 weeks you are not fully recovered. Massage is a good idea and if things are not settled by about 9 to 12 months you may need a revision.

Answer: Submental cords after facelift Although time should be helpful I would recommend starting steroid injections at 3 months to try to alleviate some of the problem. You will probably require revision surgery at the 6 month mark and that helps. Some of this advice is based on generalities because we do not the exact type procedure performed.

Answer: Lumps after facelift Thanks for the pictures. I would agree with your plastic surgeon. Time is the best treatment to allow the area to soften.

Answer: Cords after facelift I am imagining that you underwent a face and neck lift, as this can be a common problem with what is termed a "corset platysmaplasty." It is still too early to judge the results, but often times while my patients are waiting for healing to occur, I will inject Botox into the platysmal muscles to temporarily relieve the "cords." You will need to wait 2-3 more months in order to determine whether a revision will be necessary.
