When Will my Right Breast Drop in Place After Capsulotomy?

I had capsulotomy (on the right breast) close to 6 weeks ago. At the time both implants were replaced and my surgeon created a new pocket on the right side. How much longer should it take for the implant on the right to drop back into place (the left side is fine)? The right implant also feels slightly harder and is still a bit higher and not as round as the left. Should I be concerned of a contracture at this time or is this normal?

Waiting for the shoe (breast implant) to drop

Implants can drop immediately after capsulotomy or make take several months for this to occur. Occasionally preferential breast implant displacement exercises, as shown in the linked video, may edpedite this process if permitted by your surgeon. see video

Breast should look symmetrical in the operating room

I'm not sure what it means to drop in place. If there was a capsulotomy that means that the previous scar tissue needed to be opened up to allow for the implant to sit in the pocket unrestricted and match the opposite side. I always sit my patients up on the operating room table and check for position and symmetry before closing the incisions. Iff your implant "slipped up " after surgery, there's the possibility that the pocket healed together below the implant or there could've... more

See your surgeon

If the capsule was preventing the implant from falling into the appropriate position then removing or opening the capsule would allow the implant to fall into its desired position. The breast should look better right after surgery and continue to improve in appearance. The immediate post operative period will show swelling and possibly some variablity of the implant position but this would improve with time. Your description of the implant makes it sound as if the implant is still... more

Implants dropping

It is hard to predict when exactly the implant will drop into place.  Everyone's body responds differently.  If you are concerned about the look and feel, I would touch base with your doctor.

Follow your plastic surgeon's instructions

I'm not sure what you mean when you say your plastic surgeon created a new pocket on the right. If the surgery was to help a capsular contracture on the right, that means the capsule was either removed or opened up a bit more. If you have smooth implants there should most likely be a massage protocol you are following to encourage the implant to settle into the desired position. Realize though that there are plastic surgeons who don't like their patients to massage. Discuss your... more
