Yes, otoplasty can be combined with other procedures and frequently is. The only significant precaution is to ensure that the combination of procedures does not entail too much anesthesia time.

Ear surgery can be done with other procedures

There are many procedures that can be combined and done under local or the general anesthesia. As long as the patient is a healthy individual and his medical condition allows for the extended time of the surgery, it is even preferred to avoid going under the general anesthesia again in a short period of time. It gives a chance for the one recovery time. Talk to your plastic surgeon and he should advise you what is the best in your case.

Otoplasty; Ear Surgery - Combined Cosmetic Procedures

Otoplasty is specifically indicated for prominent ears. The complexity of the surgery depends on the stage of ear development and the severity of the prominent ears. Combining the procedure with other cosmetic facial surgeries is acceptable if it does not compromise the integrity of the ear repair and does not overly extend the time of surgery. This can only be determined by the surgeon, your individual medical condition, and the combination of surgery.

Combination procedures

The goal with any surgery is to achieve the best improvement so, in theory, procedures can be combined but the idea is to combine them wisely. I always consider the post op pain expected, recuperation time, and appropriate anesthetic. I also find that the Extreme Makeover frenzy has patients asking about multiple procedures when their pocketbooks cannot stretch beyond one. A patient really has to consider what they are comfortable spending.

Otoplasty (Ear Surgery) Can Be Combined with Other Procedures

Like most other facial plastic surgery procedures, otoplasty can be combined at the same time with other facial plastic surgery procedures. The great majority of these otoplasty procedures I perform under local anesthesia with a light oral sedative, but that is up to the patients.

Combining otoplasty and other facial procedures

It is not uncommon in my practice to combine otoplasty with other facial plastic procedures. The most common procedures to perform in conjunction with an otoplasty is a rhinoplasty and chin implant especially in younger individuals. Also, one anesthetic may lessen your overall costs.

Otoplasty combined with rhinoplasty

An otoplasty can very easily be combined with a rhinoplasty or facial implant.  When combining procedures you should avoid those that might interfere with one another or those that increase the time of surgery to an unacceptable level.  Your age and health will play a role in determining what is too long.  Let your surgeon evaluate you and he can recommend what is appropriate and safe.

Otoplasty can often be combined with other facial plastic surgical procedures.  However, combining too many procedures can lead to long operative times, this can create the risk of increased complications.  Patients may not feel well immediately post operatively if too many procedures are combined with a very long anesthetic.

Otoplasty can very easily be combined with other procedures. In our practice, we have combined otoplasty with rhinoplasty, liposuction of the chin and neck, blepharoplasty, and even a breast augmentation. The recovery process for an otoplasty is not very difficult. Patients tolerate the surgery very well and appreciate correcting this area.

Otoplasty can certainly be combined with other facial plastic surgery procedures. In fact, I do otoplasty with rhinoplasty on a fairly regular basis. The procedure can usually be done within 45 minutes to an hour. Therefore, combining it with other procedures like rhinoplasty or facelift surgery is considerable reasonable and safe.

Otoplasty can most certainly be combined with other procedures. When combining multiple procedures though, it is important to ensure that the entire operative time is not unsafe. In some cases, splitting the procedures into two sessions is necessary just for patient safety while in other circumstances, an overnight hospital stay may be appropriate.

Ear surgery can be done with other operations

Ear surgery is physiologically easy on the patient and can easily be performed with other operations.  Occasionally with facelifts, patients will have me make the ears less prominent.  This adds about 30 minutes to the operation and fits nicely with the overall convalescence.

Safe to have ear surgery with other facial surgeries

It is safe to combine otoplasty with other facial cosmetic surgeries as long as your health permits. Your surgeon will be able to estimate the total time required to perform the surgeries and determine if your condition will tolerate anesthesia for that duration. Most patients seeking otoplasty and other surgeries (ie. rhinoplasty) are young, in good health and can tolerate a long surgery. One can also consider sedation as an alternative to general anesthesia.

You can have multiple procedures, but with that comes an extra cost, but also possibly additional savings when you combine procedures. You should really think about the comfort level for yourself after multiple procedures. When multiple procedures are done, there is more to take care of and more to consider in terms of your appearance. Combining ear surgery for prominent ears with other facial or body procedures is safe as long as the total operative time remains within the safe limits for the patient. The safe limits depend on the type of anesthesia and the healh risks of the patient.
