Will the seperation of stomach muscles cause the buddah belly look? When having a tummy tuck will the surgeon automatically tighten them or is that something that you would have to ask for specifically?

Buddah Belly Repair
The repair of the abdominal muscles makes a dramatic difference in the lower tummy "pooch" in women with this problem.
Discuss this specifically with your surgeon to learn just how much improvement you can expect.

Abdominoplasty
I would never say it is automatic to tighten the abdominal muscles , but I would havet to say that I could count on one hand the times that I did not tighten the muscles during a tummy tuck.

Tightening the Abdominal Muscles in a Tummy Tuck: Repair, Contour and Define
In an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck the abdominal muscles are routinely brought back together to help improve the abdominal contour and waistline, as well as improve the abdominal definition. The muscles are typically spread after having children and/ or with weight gain. This is referred to as a diastasis recti and can be the etiology for abdominal bulging. The diastasis repair is called a plication and I typically do a 2 layer, permanent suture plication to provide a solid repair. I...

Tummy Tuck and muscle tightening
An abdominoplasty is a procedure to contour the abdominal wall. A plastic surgeon will evaluate all the factors contributing to the undesirable elements that contribute to your displeasing contour to develop a plan to correct these elements. This usually includes the stretched muscles of the abdomen.

Slimming down the Buddha
Hi there-
When performed by a well-trained and Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) usually does involve correction of rectus diastasis.
Be sure you are dealing with a properly credentialed, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon-
and remember- quality is always a good investment!

Tummy tuck for a Buddha Belly
If you have muscle separation after pregnancy or significant weight loss, then a full standard tummy tuck would include repair of that muscle separation. That repair, along with removal of extra skin on the abdomen, is what does indeed tighten and flatten the tummy after a tummy tuck. A tummy tuck can only treat what's on the outside, though, not fat that is around the intestines--you would have to lose that on your own with a sensible weight loss plan. If you have excess...

Typically this is part of the operation
While there are cases where the muscles don't need to be sewn together, in most tummy tucks this is part of the procedure. Talk to your surgeon to be certain of what he or she is going to do prior to proceeding with the surgery so everyone will be happy afterwards.

Always ask questions and understand exactly the operation = informed consent! Than if you are not explained the muscular repair than the doctor might not do them. Please ask questions.

Tummy tucks should always include muscle tightening, but don't
Though any reputable plastic surgeon will automatically tighten muscles during a tummy tuck, I have seen several instances in which patients did not have their muscles tightened. In each case the surgery was done by an unqualified, non-board certified doctor working out of a cosmetic surgery clinic. Ask the right questions and confirm that everything is being done correctly.

Muscle Repair is Almost Always Part of Tummy Tuck
Tightening of the recti muscles is almost always done during a full tummy tuck. Occasionally I see women who have not been pregnant or men who do not require this portion of the procedure, but virtually all women who have had pregnancies carried to term will need to have the muscles plicated.

Buddha belly
The muscle is the foundation of the abdomen and sets the contour. As such it is usually a routine part of the tummy tuck operation. The strength layer of tissue which surrounds the muscles is unable to return to its pre pregnancy state and must be corrected surgically to achieve the desired abdominal contour.
These are great questions to ask your surgeon at the time of your consultation. Good luck

Muscle tightening is routine
Unless you are having just a panniculectomy for excess skin, a tummy tuck includes tightening the rectus muscle to repair the split or diastasis between the two muscles. This can be discussed at your initial consultation and reviewed again at your pre-op visit to make sure you know what is being done.

Correction of the Buddah Belly
Regarding: "Buddah Belly
Will the seperation of stomach muscles cause the buddah belly look? When having a tummy tuck will the surgeon automatically tighten them or is that something that you would have to ask for specifically"
The Buddha Belly look is an exaggerated pooch caused by both abdominal muscle separation AND residual obesity with intraabdominal fat. The muscle separation allows intraabdominal pooching which is made worse by a lot of fat INSIDE the abdomen...

Bye Bye Buddah Belly Bye Bye
This is considered a routine part of most tummy tucks and is commonly performed if you do have a rectus muscle diastasis (separation). However, you should review this with your surgeon at the time of the intial consultation.
