It's been 6 months after my rhinoplasty and septo surgery. I bleed from this one side of the nostril frequently. I told my doctor that it was happening and he said it was because of the cold weather. Could this be true? Today I took out a mucus filled with blood. Is this normal?
Answer: A reputable ENT or facial plastic surgeon may determine why you're having nose bleeds after rhinoplasty. Frequent nose bleeding is not normal, and this should be investigated by a specialist. Your rhinoplasty surgeon may be able to perform a painless nasal endoscopy to determine the cause of your bleeding. In many instances if the bleeding is coming from a superficial vessel on your septum, an in-office cauterization may be curative.Wishing you well.Dr. Joseph

Answer: Nose bleeds Nose bleeds result from damage to the delicate nose lining, and risk factors for this include dry (winter) air and instrumentation (nose-picking), and many others (septal deviation, a cluster of very suprerficial nasal lining vessels, etc). Nose bleeds are more common in the wintertime. You may be at a slightly higher risk for bleeding due to your recovery from surgery; however, plenty of people who have never had nasal surgery present with nosebleeds. To treat dryness, I recommend saline nose sprays during the day, a tiny dollop of Vaseline or Aquaphor just inside the nostrils at nighttime, and possibly investing in a humidifier. Consider trying these simple measures for 3-4 weeks, and avoid instrumenting the nose; if your bleeding does not resolve, contact your rhinoplasty surgeon for an in-person evaluation and exam. Good luck in your recovery!

Answer: Nose bleeding after surgery This could be a reasonable explanation as to why your nose is bleeding. Dry heat and weather in the winter can be a contributing factor. However, if this persists, you should certainly go see your rhinoplasty surgeon so they can examine your nose and determine if there is anything else to be concerned with. Best of luck.

Answer: Nasal Bleeding 6 Months Post Septorhinoplasty This is not normal! See your surgeon; if you're not satisfied get a second opinion. I don't have any other recommendations but I'm adding this because the this program requires that I respond with at least 100 characters.

Answer: Bleeding post rhinoplasty Your surgeon may be right. Dry heat in the winter lowers the humidify on the air, and this can cause your nose to bleed. The best solution to put a humidifier in your bedroom , I also recommend the use a saline nasal spray called, AYR, which you can purchase over the counter and use as often as you like, when you feel your nose drying out inside..If this does not work, the you should see your doctor or an ENT doc to examine your nose and cauterize the bleeder if it is visible .
