Is it a part of the healing process of mole removal to have the top layer turn dark and expose raw flesh underneath? (Photo)

Mole was shaved and sent to biopsy, meanwhile the area has gone from a red ring to a deep purple and now there is raw flesh exposed underneath the area. Does not appear to have infection, however skin is tight and has a burning sensation. Silver nitrate was used to stop the bleeding at the time of removal. What are some of the things that can be done to help aid in the healing process and ease the discomfort without heavily medicating?
