How is Breast Tissue Reshaped During a Breast Lift?

Question viewed 846 times

I've heard that doc's are now moving inner breast tissue from the bottom of the breast, and sewing it onto the top of the breast, so that it all lifts from the inside. Is this safe? What would the benefits/drawbacks of the procedure be? (ie, scarring, loss of function or feeling, etc.) Also what would the costs be? Does ptosis matter? Thanks!

Shaping the lifted breast

You have touched upon one of the challenges of breast lift surgery ( mastopexy ). The challenge is creating fullness in the upper part of the breast. This fullness can come from an implant or the use of your own tissue. The technique, that you ask about, folds the breast tissue from below the nipple upward and behind the nipple. This creates fullness in the top of the breast. This technique does not require any more scarring than standard uplifts.

Internal sutures for breast lift are safe and help shape the breasts

Most surgeons use some type of internal suture technique to help shape the breasts during breast lift (mastopexy). All are designed to give the best possible shape to the breasts and to maintain the lift. No matter what technique is used, there will be some settling as healing progresses, the tissues relax, and swelling goes down. Some women lose volume in their breasts along with ptosis (sagging), and, in this situation, a breast implant in combination with a lift can give longer lasting... more

Many ways to do a Breast Lift- but not all will be good for you.

Hi there- There are a large number of techniques now described for improving the shape of a woman's breasts- and most are effective in producing improvement in carefully selected patients. The key is to match the right technique with the patient, based on her goals and her examination. Not all breast lift techniques will give a good outcome in all patients. The emphasis on patient selection is added because some of the very worst outcomes I see are in patients who chose a surgeon because... more

Consider the naturabra [with video]

If you are a suitable candidate, we can use your own breast tissue from the lower pole of your breast to provide more upper pole fullness. We have just completed a 7 year study on the naturabra internal autologous bra technique that shows that the results are long lasting and maintain the shape and projection of the breast while obviating a need for an implant. This usually involves a vertical approach which keeps the scars to a minimum and has proven to be a reliable and safe procedure.... more

Inferior pedicle for auto-augmentation in breast lift surgery

Great question. You can use "spare-parts" in breast lift surgery. The lower aspect of the breast which usually is excised, though does no usually represent a significant volume can be resuspended up to the chest to help fill that area. In most breast lift patients the amount does not take the place of an implant, but it can be used to maximize volume if no implant is to be used. I hope this helps. Dr. Trussler

Breast ptosis and internal bra

With all the multiple breast-lifting techniques which have been described in the past, we have found the most effective method to be the HALL-FINDLEY procedure because the scars are shortened AND internal support is much improved. Furthermore some of the "elements of drooping" are eliminated. I like the shape better and so do the patients. This gives both INTERNAL and EXTERNAL (skin) support. With breast ptosis, gravity is a constant battle! The fee range in our area ranges from... more

Internal suturing: Common Part of Mastopexy / Breast Lift to Correct Ptosis / Sagging

Breast ptosis is the diagnosis name for sagging of the breasts. This includes varying degrees of loose skin, descent of the areola & nipple, and lack of fibrous support within the breast tissue. There is often loss of volume, which is addressed by also adding an implant. To put it simply, if the only problem were loose skin, then limited skin tightening may be all that is needed. If the breast gland tissue has descended, some form of internal tightening is probably in order. ... more

Breast tissue reshaped during a breast lift

Read each of the preceding expert answers many times and follow their recommendations and advise. Most of us boarded plastic surgeons do some modification of the internal suturing techniques as described. From MIAMI DR. B

Breast uplift, mastopexy

There are many differrent techniques to correct breast ptosis or droopiness of the breasts. I try and use the one that will give the patient the least amount of scars with the best shape. This usually involves a lollipop or anchor type scars remaining. I the majority of the uplifts, I am able to do the lollipop incisions.

Breast lift and tissue shaping

Breast lifts are generally done by excising excess skin, and internally placing sutures to hold the breast shape. There are several different techniques to do this, and every surgeon has his or her preference based upon their experience. Ptosis is an indication for a breast lift. Costs vary regionally, so it's hard for me to give you a good answer to that specific question. Good luck, /nsn.

Internal breast lift gives the best long term results.

Hi. 1) The breast lift that you describe (internal vertical lift, Lejour or Hall-Findlay techniques, lollipop scar) is by far the best breast lift for most women. Because the breast tissue is shaped and lifted from the inside, you get good long term shape. The skin plays no role in the lift. 2) Most other breast lifts rely on tightening the skin. But skin stretches and you don't get long term fullness on top. The breasts bottom out. 3) This operation is somewhat difficult to learn,... more

Different Ways to Lift and Auto-Augment Sagging Breasts

The earliest techniques of breast lifting date back to the early years of Cosmetic Surgery around 1900's. Gradually, the Lifting/Reduction of the Breast with different flaps (supporting the blood supply to the nipple) were proposed. In the US, the most popular technique relied on shaping the SKIN of the breast in Lifting and on removing excessive upper breast skin while preserving the inferior breast skin as the blood supply (IE Pedicle) to the nipple. The problem with these techniques were... more

Breast Lift using rearrangement of existing tissue

There are many variations of performing autogenous tissue or parenchymal rearrangement to reshape the breast. It is generally safe but can cause minor difficulties with interpreting mammograms. Adequate blood supply to the transferred tissue should be maintained in order to ensure viablity of the tissue. If the vascularity is compromised, the tissue can die and become firm and hard. Costs vary for this procedure and range from 7-12,000 USD

Breast lift techniques

There are many ways to lift and reshape the breast.  There are those who believe the the breast mound can be shaped and excise the extra skin to hold the shape.  Others believe that internal suturing is critical and that the skin envelope has less to do with the reshaping.  I personally prefer the former and you should check photos of the different results to see which technique you like better.

Implants under the muscle

Yes, you can have implants under the muscle without losing any muscle strength or ability. As long as the surgery is performed by a board certified plastic surgeon who has experience with this procedure and you are in good health which sounds like you are, you should run a very low risk of any complications. You will need to refrain from any heavy lifting for several weeks, but can return to light activities after about a week. Most patients, especially those who do heavy lifting,... more
