I had a breast reduction almost four weeks ago now. I am having a lot of swelling. Instead of the swelling going down, it is increasing. The right breast recently started with a new small bruise and now the whole breast is bruised and has very hard lumps in it. The doctor acts like everything is fine but I dont feel like its fine. SHould i be concerned?

Breast Reduction and Increased Swelling?

Thank you for the question. At this stage in your recovery, a significant increase in swelling is concerning. Repeat follow up with your plastic surgeon is indicated. Best wishes.

Swelling increasing after 4 weeks

I fyou have had a breast reduction and have increasing swelling at 4 weeks, that is not normal and I would call your doctor immediately to be seen to rule out a hematoma or seroma to name a few things.

Increase Swelling 4 Weeks After Breast Reduction

I agree with the other comments, at 4 weeks your breast should be stable or improving.  The increased swelling may be a hematoma or a seroma.

Possible Seroma after Breast Reduction

The swelling should be going down by now.  You may have a seroma which is fluid collection under the skin.  If this is the case it will need to be aspirated.  I recommend going back and seeing your plastic surgery again.

Increased swelling after breast reduction could be a hematoma

If you had a breast reduction four weeks ago and your swelling is increasing with bruising, this could be a hematoma which may require surgical intervention.  I would see your plastic surgeon as soon as possible to determine the need for a possible evacuation of the hematoma (blood clot) that may be the cause of your situation.  It is not normal to experience increased swelling and bruising this far out from your surgery. Best wishes, Dr. Bruno

Breast is enlarging one month after reduction

While it is not uncommon for a breast to become mor hard and firm around 3 weeks of healing, this does not sound quite typical.
