How Much Breast Reduction Can Be Achieved Via Surgery?

Will I be able to go from a 10DD to a 10B, or is that too much, as some people have told me?

Breast Reduction and Resulting Cup Size?

Thank you for the question. Unfortunately, there is no direct correlation between the amount of tissue removed and the ultimate cup size that a patient will wear after breast reduction surgery. Before undergoing the breast reduction procedure it is very important to communicate your size goals with your surgeon. Most patients wish to achieve a enough of a reduction to help with their symptoms while remaining proportionate with the remainder of their torso. It is... more

How much breast reduction can be achieved with surgery

Breast reduction surgery is a very popular and effective way to remove tissue that may cause symptoms such as pain or discomfort and to contour the shape and position of your breasts. Depending on the technique that is used, it is possible to perform very large breast reductions. However, in our practice, we work closely with the patient because we want to make sure that the final breast position and shape matches the rest of their body. We do not want to perform a reduction that is so... more

Breast reduction goals

The goal of breast reduction surgery is to improve the shape and reduce the volume of the breast so that the patient has an improved self-image of their self. In addition, if the patient is symptomatic from the large breasts, hopefully the reduction will improve their symptoms.

It depends.

Hi, Thank you for your question. It is hard to say without examining you. There are various techniques that could possibly achieve this for you. It depends on your height, weight, frame measurements, etc. It also depends on if you are willing to go that small. It may not leave you with a proportional figure which is desireable among most patients and surgeons. Consult with your board certified plastic surgeon. Best regards, Dr. Speron

Achieving a size B cup unlikely for most after breast reduction

Achieving a size B cup after a breast reduction procedure from a starting DD cup is very unlikely. Studies have been done comparing actual cup size after breast reduction using a short scar and the older T shape incision and the post reduction cup size most often realized is a D cup. I believe that the reduction cup size is a true cup in that patients with a very large breast will squeeze into a bra which even at a DD is much too small to actually fit them. I suggest that you look at bras... more

Possible

That should be doable.  There are several different techniques for reduction, but you should be able to achieve your goal.  It is best if you don't smoke to optimize blood supply to the operated tissues.

Breast reduction and cup size decreases

Hi! It is absolutely possible and reasonable to go from a DD cup to a B cup after a well performed breast reduction. That's just a decrease of 3 cup sizes.  You do need to be sure you want to be that small.

How Much Reduction

It is certainly possible to go from a DD to a B cup with most reduction techniques.  My patients would more typically go from a DD to a C, but this is an individual decision to be made together with your surgeon.

Breast reduction should be about relieving symptoms

Dear RedGinger, It should NOT be about how much you can have removed BUT about how much you can have removed which sufficiently relieve your symptoms and YET leave you breasts that are proportionate to your figure. Obviously removal of several kg's in a tall, large woman would probably be beneficial and aesthetic while in a short, thin woman it would basically be a mastectomy. The comments on "danger" are partially true. All things being equal, assuming you are healthy ASA-I (or... more
