Putting breast implants back after staph infection?

On April 9th I had breast implants. Being allergic to the antibiotics, I did not take them, then I got a staph infection in both breasts. My doctor removed the implants and put them back in, then decided to remove them until the infection cleared. How long should I wait before putting the implants back in?

A: Unusual case after breast implants

Hello, Getting infection in both sides is very unusual. You need to wait until after the infection is completely gone. Most doctors wait around six months although really it is a clinical decision based upon when it looks like things are "ready."

A: Remove and Replace

I would wait about 4-6 months and make sure you are appropiately treated for the infection with antibiotics. To be safe the longer you wait the better.

A: 3-6 months is standard

You should allow at least 3-6 months for your infection to completely clear and your tissues to soften before putting new implants back in. Make sure to talk with your plastic surgeon to find an antibiotic your can take to decrease the risk of a recurrent infection. Dr Edwards
