Implants subpectoral vs. subglandular, and alternatives
To over-simplify, subpectoral has better soft tissue coverage, more natural look in thin women, less rippling, probably better mammogram imaging, probably less chance for capsular contracture, while having more chance of muscular motion distortion and more early postop discomfort. Dual plane is more like subpectoral placement, but can fill mild laxity of the lower breast.

For women with small firm breasts, we generally place breast implants under the muscle. (The "dual plane" is just a variation of under the muscle.)
Under the muscle, the implants are covered by more of your own tissues, and may look more natural. Also mammography may be easier with implants under the muscle.

In the old days, you either placed the implant in front or behind the muscle. In front expanded and filled the lower breast more, had less pain, an didn't have distortion from contraction of the muscles.
Behind gave more tissue coverage so the breast looked and felt more natural, made mammograms easier, and the implants had less of a tendency to get hard.

There are options for breast augmentation whether it be implant choice, incision choice and placement of the implant above or below the muscle. If you have minimal breast tissue I feel you are best treated with a partially under the muscle breast augmentation to give more upper and inner breast coverage of the implant.
