Can I Get Breast Implants While on Accutane?

Can I get breast implants while on Accutane? The doctor says that he uses local anesthesia with sedation. I am on my next to last month of Accutane. This doctor uses an under arm incision.

Procedures while on accutane

It is recommended that after discontinuation of accutane, a person waits at least 6 months (some recommend a year though I believe 6 months is sufficient) before undergoing a surgical procedure. The reason for this is the increased risk of scarring during wound healing with surgical procedures, chemical peels, resurfacing procedures, eyebrow waxing, within 6 months of the procedure. Good luck.

Off accutane for at least six months

For a surgical procedure such as a breast augmentation 6 months off of accutane would be sufficient but for a chemical peel or laser I would wait one year.

You need at least 6 months off Accutane

I actually just cancelled a patient who needed a minor revision of a breast implant pocket because she has started on Accutane therapy. She will have to wait for 6 months after cessation of therapy for her surgery. It is all based on what is safest for you.

Wait at least 6 months after Accutane to get breast implants

Hello, Why risk poor scarring? Wait six months after being off Accutane to maximize your chances for success. Accutane and its possibility of leading to a negative outcome is not worth the risk.

Accutane

Patients on ACCUTANE considering either surgical procedures or topical skin treatments including laser or chemical peels are at higher risk of scarring than patients not on ACCUTANE. It is recommended to be off ACCUTANE for a MINIMUM of 6 months before undergoing these treatments/surgery--1 year off would reduce risks further. I hope this helps.
