I'm having subglandular breast implants (silicone mod plus round) placed subglandular. I have full A to small B cup breasts at present and I'm just wondering if I should go for textured or smooth implants placed over the muscle? Which produces the best result? Thank you.

Implant choices

I prefer smooth round implants inmost cases and under the muscle( dual plane) .  I like how smooth implants move and I like more soft tissue coverage.

Textured or smooth breast implants and placement

Hello, I tend to use smooth walled implants but like going "under the muscle" for better soft tissue coverage. Different doctors disagree on this of course. Some like "over the muscle" positioning in some patients to avoid the need for breast lift surgery. This can be a temporary maneuver, however, as the weight of the implants can encourage descent, leading to the desire for a breast lift later. It is a matter of philosophy.

Textured vs. smooth implants

This is a difficult question to answer without a physical examination. I usually prefer a smooth walled gel filled implant placed above the muscle especially in a patient with not much overlying breast tissue. The textured implants can give form creases and these can be palpable or even visible through the skin.

Textured or smooth breast implants above the muscle

Personally, I prefer smooth rather than textured. Textured implants tend to be associated with less implant mobility, more rippling and a higher rate of shell failure and leaking. This is even more applicable in women with little breast tissue that is available to cover the implant. I hope this was helpful.
