Breast Augmentation Again After MRSA is Treated?

I just found out that I have MRSA in both breasts after having breast implants 2 weeks ago. The doctor has been treating me for an infection since the day of surgery, but, 3 antibiotics later (including Cypro), I am having to have the implants removed to fight off the MRSA infection. My surgeon says I can have the implants put back in after the MRSA is treated and cleared. Is that something I should even consider? What is the risk factor of something going wrong a second time around?

Please follow-up with your infectious disease specialist for continuation of antibiotic therapy after... more

I agree with Dr.Gottlieb, in that evaluation of your “carrier” status will be necessary and... more

Breast Augmentation Again After MRSA is Treated

Most feel that a three month delay after complete healing of an implant infection is safe. I am a bit puzzled from your comment that you were being treated for an infection since the day of surgery. Did you know you had an infection when you had your surgery? In the case of staph, or MRSA in particular, it will be worthwhile to know if you are a carrier. Your regular doc, or an infectious disease specialist can run a nasal culture after your antibiotic treatment is finished.... more
