Breast implant augmentation under local anesthesia

There are a variety of options for anesthesia. If you are terrified, ask your plastic surgeon about the alternative options and the possibility of an anesthesiologist to be on standby. This may require the procedure to be res-schceduled and additional fees incurred.

Breast Augmentation under local anesthesia only

The best thing about certain procedures is that they are done with you awake.  The worst thing is, they are done with you awake. It isn't for everyone, but if you have a suitable pain tolerance and aren't an anxious person in general, this should be do-able, especially with subglandular implants.

Breast augmentation with local

I am not a big fan of using only local with oral sedatives for breast augmentation. I think many patient are uncomfortable with that. I use a board certified anesthesiologist to give my patients comfort during surgery so that I can focus on giving them a great result.

You need to be comfortable with your surgeon and his technique

I perform all of my breast augmentation's under general anesthetic, but there are some plastic surgeons who use IV sedation and local anesthesia. I would ask your plastic surgeon if youcan speak with some of his patients who have had this procedure performed under local anesthetic, and ask their opinions. I do this for my patients, if they have concerns about the procedure, and once they spoken with some of my previous patients, they are better informed and less concerned about the... more

Breast augmentation under local anesthesia is a scary idea

The best way to be reassured about your safety and comfort with a breast augmentation procedure is to have an anesthesia provider there to monitor you and make sure that everything goes smoothly. This could be an anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist (CRNA). I don't think there are many board-certified plastic surgeons doing this under local, so just to be sure you might want to verify at plasticsurgery.org. Just saying "board certfied" doesn't tell you that it is a... more

Breast Augmentation under Local Anesthesia

I know of surgeons who perform breast augmentations under local anesthesia in their office. They are usually not Plastic Surgeons. They cannot get hospital privileges so they operate under the radar of the various licensing agencies. If you are a stoic individual and having a sub-glandular breast augmentation you can do it and save a few dollars - if you trust your surgeon. If you're already stressing I would investigate the alternative of other anesthesia choices. If you are... more

You make the decisions

My advised is for you to talk to your surgeon, what kind of sedation is he going to use? If he is planning to use IV sedation, without having a anesthesiologist, then that is a flag. You need to make a decision, but maybe a consultation with a second surgeon will be of benefit. Remember board certification by THEAMERICAN BOARD OF PLASTIC SURGERY (the only board in plastic surgery recognized by the american board of medical specialties) will assure you of the proper training of your... more

Make sure there is a board certified anesthesiologist for breast augmentation.

Hi. Most breast implants are done under general.  But that's not what is important.  I don't think it is safe (and an accredited facility will not allow it) for surgeon to also be anesthesiologist.

Wait

If you are terrified and your surgeon does not calm you, wait, get a second opinion. This is a common operation and many doctors put you to sleep ,  so you have no awareness of any of the surgery

Fear of Breast Augmentation

If you are “terrified,” you should discuss this at length with your surgeon. My advice is that you do not have the procedure under oral sedation. For you, the only way I would do your surgery is under general anesthesia or controlled IV sedation administered by an anesthesia provider. I have never been able to complete surgery, even under nurse administered IV sedation, on anyone “terrified.” (Since I had always prepped them like general anesthesia and had... more

Breast augmentation under local anesthesia; why?

Breast augmentation can be performed several ways, both under the muscle and suglandular or over the muscle. Local anesthesia is used in both to help manage discomfort after, and to reduce the potential for bleeding. The local can be uncomfortable to put into the breast, and is probably not enough to allow under the muscle implant placement, the preferred approach. In our office we use a deep conscience sedation for breast augmentation. The IV sedation makes the procedure comfortable and the... more

Terrified about Breast Augmentation ~ Any Advice

Cancel the operation or go discuss with your chosen surgeon your issues. If you can not resolve them before the operation than I recommend cancelation. From MIAMI Dr. B

There are many ways to do anesthesia for breast augmentation

When I do a breast augmentation I either use sedation with a CRNA or general anesthesia.  It doesn't mean that I am right and your surgeon is wrong.  It is just a matter of what each surgeon is comfortable with.  I would just check to see if the facility that your having the surgery in is certified and that the surgeon has privileges to do the surgery at a hospital even if he or she is doing it in an office facility. If you check these things out and they are fine... more
