I keep hearing/reading that you have to get blood work before your surgery. I just had blood work done about 2 weeks ago. My surgery isn't until Late September, can I use the same blood work so I don't have to get it done again? Also, if I do I have to get it again, is the cost of bloodwork usually in the cost estimation of the overall surgery or is this a separate cost?
Answer: Blood Work needed for Breast Augmentation Surgery?
Thank you for your question.
Most of the patients undergoing this procedure are healthy, young adults and bloodwork is generally not needed.
Each office differs in regards to ordering blood work for patients. In my practice, patients who have a medical indication are asked to get blood work performed prior to surgery - not all patients need to do this.
It will be best to speak with your surgeon and see what the office policy is for that specific office.
Best wishes.

Answer: Breast Augmentation cost and blood work.
You may need blood work prior to breast augmentation surgery depending on your age, underlying medical problems and also depending on what medications you are taking. Remember, there is an entire team of doctors, anesthesia and nurses that take care of you during surgery. Each may have different request in order to proceed. If you are healthy and relatively young, a blood work from 2 or 3 weeks ago may suffice as long as a more recent pregnancy test is done. Some places will perform a urine pregnancy test at the surgical center or hospital when you check in for surgery.

Answer: Breast Augmentation and Blood Work.
For offices that require a blood test, the required test is a CBC (complete blood count).
A complete blood count (CBC) test measures the following:
•The number of red blood cells (RBCs)
•The number of white blood cells (WBCs)
•The total amount of hemoglobin in the blood
•The fraction of the blood composed of red blood cells (hematocrit)
The CBC test also provides information about the following measurements:
•Average red blood cell size (MCV)
•Hemoglobin amount per red blood cell (MCH)
•The amount of hemoglobin relative to the size of the cell (hemoglobin concentration) per red blood cell (MCHC)
The platelet count is also usually included in the CBC.
Offices generally do not charge to draw the blood, but lab fees from an independent facility are usually separate.
The blood test should be done within 30 days of surgery.

Answer: Breast Augmentation Blood Work.
Blood work is ordered in our patients only if there is a medical indication that tests are needed. This is quite rarely needed in the healthy women in our practice seeking breast enlargement.
Your operating plastic surgeon will let you know if any blood tests are required based upon your medical history and his (or her) practice preferences.
Let me extend my best wishes for your satisfying breast augmentation surgery in September.
