How Can I Tell if I'm Bottoming Out?

I had my initial augmentation in April 2009 within weeks I noticed the left side was lower than the right and kept getting lower it also seemed as though the natural breast tissue was separate from the implant. My surgeon attempted to fix it in Feb 2010 and it corrected it some but not all the way. Almost 2 years later I have had nothing but problems, pain around implant, I have to wear a bra pretty much 24/7 to help with stabilization of the implant. Is it bottomed out again?

Bottoming out of breast implants and correction.

It is impossible to give you a correct assessment without an examination or at minimum a photo. Persistent implant drop and thinning of the tissues is a known complication of breast augmentation. Surgical repair is often corrective, however if the tissue is too thin recurrence can be a problem. The solution often necessitates implant support from a dermal matrix (ie Strattice) which acts as an "internal bra" to support the implant and remove tension from the lower breast pole.... more

Buttoming out of a breast implants

What you describe sounds like a breast asymmetry. For it to bottom out it would have to have descended so that the most projectile part of the breast implant is now below your nipple. A picture would be helpful in assessing your condition. Sincerely, Martin Jugenburg, MD

Bottomed out breast implants easily noticed

It is easy to tell if a breast implant has bottomed out as the point of projection will lie low, just below the nipple. The fold can appear lower, and often the nipple will appear higher than the opposite breast and tilt upward. The pain you have is not typical and probably not related to the low implant. The bra does work, though revision is the solution. Best of luck, peterejohnsonmd.com

Bottoming out after breast augmentation?

Without a photograph it is impossible to evaluate your condition. You could have a capsular contracture or possibly the implant is malpositioned, for which you would require re-creation of a more appropriate breast pocket. See your plastic surgeon for evaluation and explanation of the problem. It's not the euphemism that's important, bottoming out or otherwise, but the condition and how to treat it. Best of luck!

Bottoming Out?

Thank you for the question. One of the most common complications after breast augmentation surgery is implant mal-position. This occurs when the implant is in an incorrect position on the chest wall. This may include incorrect position of the implant superiorly (“riding high”), inferiorly (“bottoming out”), medially (“symmastia or uni-boob”) or laterally (falling outward into the axilla). Bottoming out involves inferior migration of the implants.... more
