Question

Botox side effects - How long does a Botox headache last?

I received 25 units for TMJ on 8/21 - a slight headache began that evening. The following morning (8/22), I had a full-blown headache. I took Tylenol and it seemed to help a little. Upon waking the next day (8/23) the headache again was full-blown, I took some more Tylenol, they are helping a little.

How long will these headaches persist? I pray they don't last for the whole 3 months! I hate to be a whiner, but it seems I traded the muscle spasms for a full-blown headache. Perhaps this is a sign I need to try other avenues, which I have done, this was my last hope for relief from TMJ. (I have no pain and it is on one side, I do consider myself blessed to be without pain, though).

I hope you can give me an answer. Thanks.

Botox helps more headaches than it causes

Sorry to hear that you have experienced headaches after your Botox injections.

Now that it is over a week later, I am pretty sure that your prayers have come true. I have not heard of headaches following Botox injections lasting for more than a day or so. Please let us know how you are doing. Often the headache may not be related to the Botox, but due to the needle either bruising a nerve, or causing minor bleeding with a painful hematoma.

By the way, dental bite blocks are very helpful for the pain of TMJ Syndrome.

Good luck and be well.
