Botox or Fillers for the mid face (tear trough)
The question is actually difficult, because, in general, the use of Botox anywhere in the mid face is quite limited and specific. Fillers, by contrast are the majority of cosmetic injectables in that regrion. Specifically, the tear trough is best treated with a filler, usually a hyaluronan like Restylane or Juvederm, though Radiesse can be used in that area as well.

Tear trough treatment
Botox is not recommended for tear trough because it does not fill the area. The best treatment is a filler like restylane or juvederm.

Treatment of tear trough
The tear trough is due to thinning of the soft tissue (skin and muscle), shrinking of the fat and some resorbing of the bone with aging. It will not be affected in anyway by botox which only paralyzes muscle temporarily. You need a filler in the trough and in some cases removal of excess eyelid skin and/or redistribution/removal of eyelid fat.
