I am getting a breast augmentation in 2 weeks and surgeon I am scheduled with also has otoplasty listed on his website. I have always wanted otoplasty because my ears stick out quite a bit. Apparently there is a discount if I combine the two procedures. I have a few reservations -- there is only one before/after picture of otoplasty and none of the reviews mention patients who've had it done --most are BA reviews. Red flag or normal? Also is it safe to combine both procedures in one operation?
Answer: Combining procedures it is not unusual for a surgeon to combine procedures. The monetary discount for a combined procedure usually reflects the center's savings for operating room utilization. In addition, it will save you an additional anesthetic and recovery time. It is generally safe. As there is only one photo of otoplasty in your surgeon's photo library, it would make sense to ask about his/ her experience with the procedure. Breast augmentation is significantly more popular than otoplasty which may account for the disparity in the number of pictures.

Answer: Ears and Breasts Together No problem doing both. Simply ask the surgeon how many he/she performs. Its a relatively straight forward procedure. The most common complication of otoplasty is recurrence of prominent ear .

Answer: Combo procedures Hi. It's certainly reasonable to combine these two. Since breast augmentation is a much more popular procedure, it doesn't surprise me at all to learn that your chosen surgeon has much more reviews and photos of the BA than the otoplasty. That would be expected for all but the few otoplasty experts in the country!

Answer: Combination procedures The answer is a resounding yes. In fact very infrequently now am I doing just one procedure...Breast augmentation with liposuction, tummy-tucks, facial procedures etc are extremely common.I personally love otoplasty...very consistent results. In adults I usually place more sutures and often remove some cartilage because it has developed memory over time and the cartilage more firm so we need to do more to prevent a recurrence. It could be also because like rhinoplasty, otoplasty is performed much less commonly in adults as well as it is not as common of an overall procedure is likely the reason you find less information.Safety is not really an issue. I do combined procedures up to about 5 hours and these two together could easily be performed during that time! All my Best!Brad Bengtson MDGrand Rapids, MIchigan

Answer: Otoplasty combined with breast augmentation? Thank you for the question. Yes, most patients who are undergoing breast augmentation surgery are able to undergo otoplasty surgery safely at the same time. Of course, this is assuming overall good health... You are correct in that it will be important for you to make sure that your selected plastic surgeon does have significant/demonstrable experience achieving the types of outcomes that you will be pleased with, after otoplasty surgery. Make sure that you view a lot of before/after photographs and speak to previous patients, to give you peace of mind. You may find the attached link, dedicated to otoplasty surgery concerns, helpful to you as you learn more. Best wishes.
