I am 24 years old, and my eyes are not equal in size. I also find it a little difficult to look at small-sized objects. Can Blepharoplasty help me? If not, can you please suggest the kind of operation I should have to correct eye size? It's affecting my self-esteem.

Eye size different

Differences in eye size and shape can indeed be addressed. The question is should they. Often, differences in eye size are due to the set of the eyeball in the bony orbital rim. In the majority of cases, the differences between the eyes is minor. Minor differences in the set of the eye would not not warrant craniofacial surgery,or cutting and resetting of the bone around the eye. This is reserved for more severe cases and are usually performed in childhood. For minor differences in the... more

Address vision issue first, then tackle cosmetic concerns

The other surgeons have great comments about the ubiquity of facial asymmetry, and its underlying causes such as bony orbital asymmetry, facial volume and muscle tone asymmetry, etc. Asymmetry can be improved, but rarely solved completely. Options would include: asymmetric filler injection, asymmetric botox adminstration, cosmetic orbital decompression for the more prominent globe, and eyelid position readjustment for improved symmetry. There are many causes for difficulty with small... more

First you must be evaluated for your vision by an ophthalmologist

Asymmetry of eyes is a common finding and it could be of varying degrees. The reason for this asymmetry can be a number of anatomical structures, such as skin, fat, bone, muscles of eyes. Some can be improved and others are very difficult to change. First you must make sure that your vision is normal and you do not have a medical issue that makes one eye different than the other. Then determine if the problem is truly a cause for concern

Mild facial asymmetry is common

The face is rarely symmetrical and there can be many different causes for eyes to be asymmetical. If your vision is impaired consulting with an opthalmologist is in order and at that time you can discuss the concerns you have written about. The input from the opthalmologist will help to better understand why there appears to be asymmetry in your eye size.

Eye Size

It would be best if you post a picture so we can give you more specific advice. However, there are many factors that can affect the appearance of the eyes - lid position, underlying bony orbit, global contents, etc. If you are having any vision problems, you really need to see an ophthalmologist for an examination. After that, your cosmetic concerns can then be addressed. Good luck.

You need to see an opthalmologist for a careful exam

There are several possible causes of the asymmetry you mention. The fact that you have difficulty seeing small objects suggests that one eyeball in fact may be smaller. Corrective lenses are the most likely solution for your visual difficulties. Sophisticated orbital surgery can elevate the smaller eye but this would again require refractive lenses to correct visual disturbance. The most important thing is to find out what is causing the asymmetry that you see. If you do have eyelid... more
