Often with a dysplastic mole we often want to take a minimum area of normal skin to ensure that the entire mole has been removed. Usually this will involve a t least a 2mm margin around the mole. The damaged skin around the mole may be referring to sun damage or solar damage which will make the skin layers appear abnormal when examined by the pathologist. When the skin is abnormal looking it is sometimes call ed damaged or solar damaged skin.
