Tummy Tuck - Could I Have a Diastasis Recti? (Male)I Have a Big Scar on the Abdomen, How Will This Affect the Results of Tummy T

Depending on where it is it could help or hurt the planning of this procedure. In general, a significant scar across the upper portions of the abdomen - though certainly depending on how big that scar is - may negatively impact the blood flow to the lower abdomen and, therefore, the healing after a tummy tuck. A photo would be helpful for this discussion but you will obviously find out once you're seen in person by a plastic surgeon. It's a good idea to get several... more

Many abdominal scars are removed with a tummy tuck

The majority of abdominal scars do not limit the results of a tummy tuck and most of the scars on the lower stomach are removing during the surgery. Most scars from having your appendix removed, cesarean sections, ovarian surgery, hysterectomies and laparoscopic procedures are removed with the skin during a tummy tuck. Long midline vertical scars on the upper abdomen can sometimes limit how far down your surgeon can pull the skin and, therefore, may result in a higher scar... more

Have a Big Scar on the Abdomen, How Will This Affect the Results of Tummy Tuck

The location, orientation and length of abdominal surgical scars can drastically affect the safety and plausibility of a Tummy Tuck operation. Since scars involve the division of blood supply across the scar area, the location of a scar below the umbilicus may have little to no effect on the operation, because this skin area is usually removed while a location under the right rib margin (old gall bladder removal scar) may be associated with a drastically reduced blood flow and a risky... more

Abdominal scar and tummy tuck?

Thank you for the question. If your scar is located in the area of skin excision involvement in the tummy tuck then it should not complicate your surgery significantly (unless it is associated with the abdominal wall/incisional hernia). If the scar is above the umbilicus (especially transverse like the old-fashioned gallbladder scars) then the scar could significantly complicate the procedure and increase the risks of blood flow disruption and potential problems with wound... more

Abdominal scars and tummy tucks

It depends on the scar, where it is and how big. Scars in certain areas can increase your risks of tummy tuck surgery. Yur surgeon should be able to go over it with you.

Scars and tummy tucks

Without a photo I can't say but it may be that the old scar could be removed or revised in a tummy tuck and it also may be that it can cause a problem with blood flow to the skin depending on where the scar is. This could greatly increase the risk and complexity of the surgery.
