Am i a candidate for a tummy tuck

There are four things that give you fullness of your abdomen and different ways to address them: 1. fat - fat can be either excised ( with a TT) or removed with liposuction 2. excess skin - despite the hype over skin tightening devices, most redundant skin requires surgical excision 3. weakness of the abdominal wall (diastasis) - often occurs because of pregnancy or dramatic weight changes and requires surgical tightening (part of a TT operation) 4. visceral fat ( fat around... more

Abdominal Contouring

Although an examinaton would be required to make any recommendations, a tummy tuck may be an option for you with additional liposuction of your waist. A tummy tuck (also called abdominoplasty) is a very popular cosmetic surgery procedure. A tummy tuck can be an effective tool for shaping and sculpting the body for better body appearance and improved self esteem. Sometimes no amount of diet and exercise can create a flat tummy. Tummy tuck plastic surgery actually tightens abdominal... more

Your photo suggests a tummy tuck

Yes, I think from your photo that you could benefit from a tummy tuck. In someone like you the best results occur when that is accompanied by liposuction of the flanks and the part of the abdomen that is not excised. This can give you a "total' abdominal correction.

Possibly a candidate for a TT

Without a physical exam it is hard to give you a concrete answer. You obviously have a lot of abdominal protuberance that can be due to muscle separation/laxity that would be improved with a standard abdominoplasty. But the contour of your abdomen is smooth with only a small bulge at the bottom making me suspect that you have a large amount of internal fat that would not be addressed with an abdominoplasty. As Dr. Johnson points out, your abdomen can only be tightened as... more

Tummy tuck candidate

Based upon the photo you provided, at appears that you have abdominal wall laxity and excess skin, and would benefit from a tummy tuck. You will obtain your best possible result if you are as close as possible to your goal body weight prior to the procedure. Good luck. My response to your question/post does not represent formal medical advice or constitute a doctor patient relationship. You need to consult with i.e. personally see a board-certified plastic surgeon in order to... more

Tummy tuck and lipo combined

You have extra skin, loss of muscle tone and extra fatty tissue. I would recommend liposuction and tummy tuck at the same time. The liposuction will remove the excess fatty tissue and tummy tuck will remove the extra skin. Check my web site for examples.

Tummy Tuck Or Liposuction

I think that you will not be pleased with liposuction alone. It would be risky to remove enough fat with lipo to give a good result plus your skin might not redrape properly. A tummy tuck will remove a good bit of skin and fat and will also have the added benefit of tightening your abdominal muscle with plication sutures but the recovery will be more involved.

Tummy tuck candidate?

It is difficult to tell, even from your photo, without examining you. Abdominal protrusion can be caused by excess thickness of fatty tissue beneath the skin (treated by liposuction contouring), looseness of the skin (treated by a tummy tuck), looseness of the abdominal wall fascia and muscles (treated by a tummy tuck), and fatty tissue in the peritoneal cavity around the bowels (only treated by diet and weight loss). The more weight you lose, and therefore the less fat... more

Tummy Tuck Candidate

Looking at your photo, I would have to agree with my colleagues- you will get a better result with a tummy tuck than liposuction alone. The two can be performed together to improve your contour as well, if deemed necessary by your plastic surgeon. You will most definitely achieve the best results by attaining a realistic goal weight prior to surgery, and keep in mind that the surgery is a stepping stone to a new body contour- but without proper weight maintenance, you can lose your results.... more

Tummy Tuck vs Weight Loss

While it is impossible to say precisely without an examination, my impression is that what you need is weight loss and then Tummy Tuck with or without Liposuction, depending on your condition after the weight loss. See Dr. Oz's book," You on a Diet" for information on how to lose your extra weight.

Question regarding the appropriateness of a possible tummy tuck

An accurate answer to your questions can't be provided without a physical examination for many reasons. Yes you do have a protuberant abdomen and if it were flattened, there may be a relative excess of skin. However, if you have a large amount of intraabdominal fat, a tummy tuck would have a limited effect. You would need to lose a lot of weight first in order to accomplish the tightening. It would also be important to know how much of this is fat as that would also affect the... more

Tummy Tuck vs Liposuction

My question for you is 'how happy are you with your weight'? The results of any abdominal surgery are always improved with your weight being close to your goal. After weight loss, your plastic surgeon can be more aggressive with removal of loose skin and the contour of your abdomen is much improved. You would be a candidate for a tummy tuck now but even a small weight loss would make your result even better.

Tummy tuck vs. Liposuction

A tummy tuck removes extra skin and subcutaneous tissue from the abdomen with or without tightening the abdominal muscles. Liposuction removes subcutaneous fat from beneath the skin but does not remove extra skin. If the skin has lost elasticity and does not shrink down, then there can be wrinkling of the skin (think deflated balloon) which can look worse than before surgery. It is difficult if not impossible to judge skin elasticity from a picture so your best bet is to set up a... more

A good candidate for tummy tuck

Liposuction is effective for localized deposits of fat, and your photo demonstrates skin laxity and laxity of the abdominal muscles, a better result from tummy tuck. Though you would benefit from tummy tuck, you might do even better with further weight loss prior. Your stomach after tummy tuck will never be flatter than it is when you are flat on your back. If your abdomen is still convex, take more time with weight loss beforehand. Best of luck, peterejohnsonmd
