I'm 16 and have always been very insecure about my nose. I've been bullied a lot for my nose. As you can see my nose looks different on both sides. I also have trouble breathing through my nose, and have always gotten bad bloody noses. Does it look like a deviated septum and would my insurance (tricare)cover a corrective surgery?
Answer: Easily determined in the office You are a lovely young woman. If you are concerned about your nose, have your parents bring you to a qualified and experienced facial plastic surgeon who can help. An evaluation will determine what parts your insurance should cover.

Answer: Rhinoplasty and septoplasty are two completely different procedures The rhinoplasty procedure is performed for cosmetic purposes to straighten the nose, reduce the dorsal hump, and adjust the tip as necessary. A rhinoplasty will not improve the airflow through the nose, only change the shape of it. A septoplasty is performed for functional purposes to improve airflow in the back of the nose, once medical necessity has been documented at the time of examination and consultation. A septoplasty will not change the shape of the nose. For more information on the differences between the 2 procedures, please see the video below

Answer: Does it look like a deviated septum and would my insurance (tricare)cover a corrective surgery? Dear GraceYou have symptoms of a deviated septum. You should see a plastic surgeon with your parents and once your nose is examined, if you have a deviated septum or other obstructive anatomy, then repair of that would be covered by your insurance.

Answer: Deviated septum Bullying is unfortunately product of your current social environment and station in life. With time, the unsolicited opinions of self-appointed judges will matter less to you.The septum is a structure that separates the internal nasal cavity into two compartments. The pictures you took don't provide details of that part of your anatomy. Nasal obstruction is often multifactorial; the septum is one contributor to nasal obstruction or breathing troubles. While your insurance company may cover the functional part of the surgery(i.e. improving your nasal breathing), they will not cover the aesthetic portion of the procedure, the rhinoplasty. Based on your pictures your nose has a dorsal hump, is slightly over-rotated, and the tip is a rounded/ unrefined. All characteristics that are common to unoperated noses. Ultimately, you will benefit from rhinoplasty, and a more refined nose would compliment your naturally beautiful features: big brown eyes, good cheekbone structure and full lips. Just do not expect insurance to cover the cost of an operation.

Answer: Will Insurance Cover correction of Deviated Septum? With these pictures I cannot tell if your septum is deviated. An examination will be required to evaluate nasal function. It is very rare for an insurance company to cover the total cost of nasal surgery but in my office our staff will assist our patients who have questions about their insurance.
