my doctor advises i do Mixto laser treatment for sun damage across my cheeks. i have read about bad reactions to mixto. are these true for most people? should the bad results be blamed on the doctor not the mixto procedure? thank you for your information!

I had a full treatment on my face and love it. No more brown spots! The office i went to in san ramon is very experienced with the mixto laser.

You should post your before and after photos so people can see your results.

I find this site very interesting to see what the lay person's view is on laser procedures. I am a physician specializing in cosmetic laser procedures and have been performing resurfacing procedures for many years, treated thousands of patients. I have compared the Mixto CO2 with other CO2 lasers and have to say the results of the Lumenis CO2 Encore or the ActiveFX/DeepFX/MaxFX system are far superior. I agree with a previous comment that the Mixto CO2 is a poor man's CO2 and price would be the only reason a doctor would invest in this device. It certainly is not because of quality.

If price is not an issue, then go with the Fraxel.. My husband is a plastic surgeon..and has amazing resuts with the Fraxe.. my sis is 3 years younger and she gets so mad when everyone asks how much older she is than me.. Fraxel is amazing. The new Repair is amazing too but there is more downtime.. about 10 days.. but the results were off the charts..my friends that have done it look so much younger.. The regular Fraxel does have about 2 days downtime.. you can work but you are puffy and dont see the results for a week..and on your 3rd treatment..you see a huge difference.. Also make sure the Dr you go to does the treatment himself..too many problems with RNS unless you really check them out.

Thank you all so much for the feedback! I was in my dermatologist’s office this past week and was completely sold on this procedure. She said it was hands down the best procedure and would well be worth the money. I am so glad I did some research...I think I will definitely stay with Fraxel. Does anyone know of anything stronger than Fraxel?

I had my first Fraxel laser treatment 5 days ago. I was expecting the swelling, reddness, tenderness, and feeling like I had "the worst sunburn ever". On the 3rd day I started breaking out with terrible acne/pimples. My face is throbbing in those areas and the pimples look horrible. I have not left my house in four days and am so embarrassed to be seen. I see improvement in many areas but the acne breakout is killing me. I never had acne before and this is really bad. Did anyone else have a reaction similar to this?

Hi Hang in there..what happens is the laser brings out all the junk in your skin.. get some hebacleanse..not sure if I spelled that right..and wash your face.. and ask dr for some retin a..only use on the pimples.. you will love your Fraxel when you are clear.. I had the same thing and my skin looks amazing right now.. hang in.. you might even need an antibiotic for a few days if it is really bad..that will speed things up... dont worry..you will look great.. but there are things you can do to clear up your skin now..

We have been astonished how much more patient and doctor friendly the Mixto is. Patients who have had the Fraxel as well as the Mixto greatly favored the Mixto. It has yielded more comfortable treatments, outcomes which are more predictable, and the ability to treat patients of darker skin types as well as hands and necks. We have retired our Fraxel. In our hands the Fraxel required multiple treatments, created discomfort which was hard for the patients to tolerate, and was unpredictable. We are very highly experienced with lasers and the Fraxel became the least favored laser with our staff.

I have used CO2 ( carbon dioxide) laser technology for skin tightening and resurfacing for 15 years. I have the "gold standard" the Coherent Ultrapulse. While this laser is effective, patients have a lot of downtime. I searched high and low for an effective CO2 fractional laser and last year I found it, Mixto. Other companies have changed their technology from Erbium based to CO2 in order to achieve better results. I have performed several thousand skin rejuvenation procedures in my Detroit medical spa and both patients and staff have enjoyed Mixto results. This laser is tunable so that the physician can treat from very light to a deep peel. It is important not only to pick the laser but the physician who has experience with the treatment for optimum results.
