Thank you for your post and question on real self.Glad to hear that you were tested for hyperthyroidism. High amounts of thyroid hormone can cause the eyes to bulge by causing lid retraction of the upper and lower eyelids as well as cause accumulation of fat around the eyes causing them to bulge out.Let me reassure you. Your eyes do not look grossly abnormal. As for normal causes of "bulging eyes", they can be caused by slightly retracted lower eyelids, or excess fat in the orbit. A combination of removing fat from around the eyes and lengthening the lower lid, can improve the appearance of bulging eyes.You will need to consult with a board certified/eligible plastic surgeon.Best of luck.- Dr. Bryson Richards

Cosmetic orbital decompressions are performed but they are relatively unusual.  You need to be assessed by a truly experienced orbital surgeon for this.  I think you will find that in Australia, you will be challenged to find an orbit surgeon who has the patience you need for your concern.  They will likely be overwhelmed with more profound cases of proptosis.  That is not to say that you can't find what you are looking for.  In the larger cities there are some excellent, world class orbit surgeons in Australia and that is who you need to see.

Making eyes more deep set requires building up the bone around them. (orbital rims) This is best done with made orbital rims implants.
