I had a breast augmentation done 20 days ago and my nipples are extra sensitive. They feel raw when they rub against my bra. Is this normal and how long could it take to get better.
Answer: Nipple sensitivity. Hello sherria2015. Nipple sensitivity after breast implants is very common and normal. The most likely cause is stretch of the nerve which supplies sensation to the nipple. The stretch is caused by the breast implant, but even small breast implants can cause this to occur. In my patients I recommend massage of the nipples to desensitize the area. I ask that patients first apply Arnica cream in a circular fashion and that they massage with a vibrating device such as an electric toothbrush for 5 minutes each nipple. This is an effective noninvasive way to treat this situation. If the sensitivity persist in a few patients, then we try a medication called gabapentin and massage. Wearing a more comfortable bra helps. Before you do anything, you should ask your PS what they recommend. Best, Dr. ALDO.

Answer: Breast sensitivity Thanks for your inquiry. Early nipple sensitivity is not uncommon. In general it will improve over the first few months as the swelling goes down. I would ask your surgeon if he/she would be okay with you gently massage them in the shower to re-educate your nerves. I have seen success with this strategy. Good Luck.

Answer: Nipple sensitivity Thanks or the question. It is not uncommon to have increased nipple sensitivity post operatively. This almost always resolves over time. Some studies have suggested that desensitization exercises, such as gently rubbing the nipple with soft cloth, or massage may help. There are drugs for nerve pain, but I certainly would record those in the early post op period. I suggest hat you discuss this with your surgeon. Hang in there, this almost always gets better with time.

Answer: Nipple sensitivity I usually recommend silicone gel sheeting for nipple sensitivity after augmentation mammoplasty especially if the incision is around the areola. Constant low pressure helps decrease the sensitivity over a period of 12 weeks.
