I have dark circles under my eyes and a deficient tear trough region due to the fact that I had an open bite and midface deficiencies. The open bite has been corrected through a lefort 1 but a lefort III was not performed to bring the midface forward. In eyelid surgeries, can anything be done to augment the tear trough area? Is augmenting this area commonly done?

Fillers for correction of the tear trough.
Yes, this is a very common procedure but very technique dependent. There are a variety of fillers that can be used. If this is your first time, I would recommend beginning with a hyaluronic filler. In the event that you do not like the result the off label use of hyaluronidase can paritally reverse the product. In the event that you like the result, longer term fillers can be used as well as fat grafting. Some surgeons even utilize specializzed inplants for this area.

Tear trough augmentation
Hi, fillers are helpful for filling in the tear trough, but you really should see someone who does this frequently as the material in the fillers can be very noticeable under the thin skin of the eyes. When you schedule a visit, be sure to ask if the doctor has experience in this specifically. Good luck, /nsn.

Injectable Fillers can be used to correct a "tear trough"
If you have a visible lower eyelid groove, this can easily be corrected with an Injectable Filler treatment in an office-setting and topical anesthetic.
I've attached a photo demonstrating correction of a "tear trough" with Injectable Fillers.
I hope this is helpful, and best regards.

The are very few who are qualified to augment tear troughs
Hi Miikey
These are typically complex issues. A photograph would be very helpful to be more specific with your particular circumstance.
Circumscribed volume defects can be helped with fillers. The fillers available now do last long enough to be a workable solution for some.
However, for the majority of individuals with issues like you are describing benefit from surgery. While craniofacial surgeons tend to prefer calvarial bone grafts to augment the orbital rim or actual midface...

Yes
There are a number of ways to do this. I usually take some of the fat from around the eyeball and tuck it into the deficient areas. I do it routinely.

Tear Trough Augmentation Is Possible
As Dr. Placik points outs, tear trough augmentation is possible and I would definitely suggest using hyaluronic acid based fillers if you have never had the procedure performed before. I would caution in your case that this may not be the correct thing for you. A proper evaluation by a facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon is necessary to determine if it is truely a tear trough deformity that you suffer or if augmentation of the cheek and tear trough area is more appropriate using...
