I'm really interested in a rhinoplasty and i have done lot's of research and contacted surgeons for virtual consultations. I have been advised that for the results I want, i will need to have a silicone implant with my augmentation. I have also been told a chin implant would be recommended so that my features are more suited. Below is a photo that i have edited to show the results that i want (desired results: left)are these results achievable?

Asian rhinoplasty

Your desired results are achievable but you will need augmentation of your nose and your chin. While most physicians will be willing to use a synthetic implant (several types available) for the chin you will find varied thoughts about your nose. Some prefer only your own cartilage, others (including some large published series from China and Korea) find synthetics ok for augmentation of the bridge. What you choose will be decided by you and the surgeon you choose after consultation. more

Rhinoplasty

There are a number of options for dorsal augmention including silicone . I personally like silicone for dorsal augmentation in specific individuals with thick skin ( asians) . There are advantages and disadvantages to the use of implants vs cartilage . There is not adequate space here to go over the various specifics. Also re the chin there are a number of implants that could potentially be used vs a sliding osteotomy ( your own bone ) .

I prefer to use autologous tissues such as nasal or ear cartilage to augment the nose. These have less long term problems and give as good a result as silicone. I also prefer genioplasty with advancement. Donald R. Nunn MD Atlanta Plastic Surgeon.

Wouldn't use silicone

I wouldn't use silicone to augment your nose. The results you desire are very reasonable and could easily be achieved using your own ear cartilage. I would use a silicone implant to augment your chin. I think the result you are looking for balances your nose quite nicely. Make sure the surgeon you find has experience with rhinoplasty and, in with Asian rhinoplasty.

Asian Rhinoplasty

Dear jks107107, Your desired results look achievable. Nasal augmentation can be performed using an implant, your own cartilage, or a combination of both. In general, I prefer to use autologous cartilage when possible. Judging from your photo, I think you would be a potential candidate for augmentation using either an implant or your own cartilage. I would discuss the benefits and risks of each approach with your plastic surgeon. Warmest wishes, Larry Fan, MD

Permanent artificial implants, like silicone, can have permanent unwanted side effects. It is best to use autologous tissue, meaning your own cartilage (such as from septum, ear, rib) to reconstruct the nasal bridge. I have published and presented on this topic.

The results you desire are achievable! I agree with the chin augmentation. However, to build your nose to have a straight profile (as you show in the left picture), I prefer to use cartilage from within yourself instead of silicone. Furthermore, it is essential to ensure that you are able to breathe through your nose following surgery in addition to having an aesthetically pleasing result. Augmenting the Asian nose with associated chin surgery

You can raise your tip and bridge using only your own tissues. I prefer using ear cartilage and septum to build the entire nose without resorting to synthetic materials. The long term problems with synthetics are not worthwhile in my opinion. If you plan to travel for your surgery, it will be difficult to deal with the higher complications related to using synthetics. For the chin, with the thicker skin you can go with a synthetic implant. I prefer going in through the mouth and using a... more

Asian Rhinoplasty and chin augmentation

I have preformed both Rhinoplasty and Chin Augmentation for over 20 years and after looking at your photos, IMHO...yes to the chin implant placed through an incision under the chin...not inside the mouth. No, absolutely not to the silicone dorsal graft...your nasal bones are high enough and the L-shaped silicone implant should not be used to define the nasal tip as they are prone to erosion through the skin. The nasal tip can be defined using a tip plasty technique with... more
