Would an Asian Person Need Augmentation of the Nose to Avoid Deficient Tip Support?

If augmentation is necessary, is this done to help the rhinoplasty procedure blend harmoniously with the rest of the face?

Tip support and bridge are unrelated in Asian rhinoplasty

Most Asian noses require tip support, but not all need dorsal augmentation. Some surgeons will use the dorsal implant to support the tip by having the implant extend to the nasal tip. This reflects on the limitation of the surgeon's repertoire. It's safer to build up the nasal tip using your own tissues rather than an implant extending to the tip. If you don't need a bridge, I would not recommend augmenting it as a means of providing tip support.

Asia rhinoplasty and tip support

Most Asian rhinoplasty procedures involve a silastic nasal dorsal implant to build up the low and flat Asian nasal bridge. Osteotomies are usually not necessary. No extra tip support is needed since the patients own natural tissues have enough support for the framework of the nose.

Tip in Asian Rhinoplasty

Augmentation is frequently part of the Asian rhinoplasty because many patients want to increase definition and projection. In all rhinoplasty patients, regardless of their ethnic background, want a natural result that is proportional to their surrounding facial features.

Would an Asian Person Need Augmentation of the Nose to Avoid Deficient Tip Support?

Yes, the various areas, of the nose, that are refined during a Rhinoplasty are manipulated in order to establish the proper beauty aesthetics. In fact, when this is not achieved, the results look odd an unattractive.

Would an Asian Person Need Augmentation of the Nose to Avoid Deficient Tip Support?

There are several surgical maneuvers available for tip support in rhinoplasty. In an Asian rhinoplasty, these can be performed in conjunction with tip augmentation. Every patient is different in their requirements, and it is rare to augment the tip without augmenting the dorsum. My personal preference is to combine suture techniques and grafting techniques using cartilage grafts. The purpose of the all the maneuvers together is to restore facial harmony.

Asian Rhinoplasty

Tip support can be achieved without augmentation of the nose. It depends on what you are trying to achieve. Most Asians seek augmentation of the bridge, narrowing of the middle vault, improved tip definition, and narrowing of the nostrils. Whatever you seek to achieve must be in balance with the rest of your face.

Asian Rhinoplasty

It depends on what you mean by augmentation, what your goals are and the unique examination of your nose. Classically, the Asian Rhinoplasty will involved building up the tip, adding tip support, and building up the bridge. This can be done using your own cartilage or with synthetic implants. But you are right in assuming that achieving harmony with the rest of the face is important.

Asian rhinoplasty.

Some form of tip augmentation is usually needed in the Asian nose with or without bridge augmentation. I wound need to see photos to give a better answer. I have done Asian rhinoplasty for 35 years and it is similar to revision rhinoplasty which requires similar augmentation. Your most important criterion should be does the surgeon do the type of natural rhinoplasty you like, not how he does it.

Augmentation of the Nose in Asian Patients

Without photos it is difficult to fully understand your question, but it is very common to need augmentation in an Asian rhinoplasty because most noses are broad and flat. Augmentation is commonly needed on the bridge to give it more definition, and as a result the tip must be elevated to keep the nose in balance overall. See an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon in your area to get a better opinion on what is right for you. Also, imaging can be very helpful to give you an idea on what to... more
