Crooked Nose

Rib is a good and safe choice, however there are a number of cases of rib grafts warping over time ( Usually in the first 2 years after placement ). A good alternative is Calverian bone from the skull that is also natural tissue but does not warp.

Crooked nose after rib implant

Often the rib is shaved and sculpted to prevent this from occurring. Furthermore, some doctors put a small piece of metal down the shaft of the rib so that it inhibits and type of warping. If it is going to warp you can see it as early as 2 weeks, and as late as 2 years or beyond.

Crooked Nose Following Asian Rhinoplasty

Yes, there is the risk of warpiing of a rib graft when used to augment the projection of an Asian nose. I usually do not need rib graft because enough cartilage can be harvested from the nasal septum and the ears. If I do use rib cartilage, I prefer diced cartilage in a fascia sleeve to avoid the risk of change in shape.

There are several techniques used to build up the bridge if the nose if necessary. The simplest is to use a silicone plastic implant. It does not require harvesting a rib and is easily reversible by simple removal. However, the implant usually remains slightly mobile and it can shift. Without seeing a picture I can not make a recommendation as to whether a rib or carriage graft is worthwhile in your particular situation. Make sure to go to a surgeon with experience in nasal... more

Warping after Asian rhinoplasty using rib

Yes, it is possible but I rarely see the need to use rib when there is sufficient ear cartilage (usually one unused ear is enough). There are ways to mitigate the risk of warping when using cartilage, and wrapping the cartilage in an extra tissue layer like fascia, or dicing it into small fragments can minimize warpage risks.

WIll Nose Become Crooked After Time Following Asian Nose Job Rhinoplasty with Your Own Rib?

The appearance of a crooked nose after rhinoplasty is a potential risk with an autogenous graft like a rib graft and also with a synthetic graft. There is the possibility of warping of the rib graft with time. Certain measures can be taken during the operation to prevent this from happening. Additionally, addressing underlying structural abnormalities like a deviated septum may help prevent graft migration.

Warping Of Rib Graft Rhinoplasties

Warping of the rib over time after a rib graft rhinoplasty is always a risk. Whether that will occur is a function of the shape of the rib portion that is harvested, how it was carved, and the pocket into which it is placed. All of these factors contribute to how well the rib graft stays straight with time. These are under surgeon control and the natural shape of the rib cartilage. While it is a risk anytime a rib graft is used, good surgical technique can substantially minimize that as a... more

Filling in a bridge can be done with a variety of materials. Your own rib is the best choice. We do this via a mini-incision that reduces the pain associated with harvesting you rib. Ribs can warp over time, but is unlikely to happen if the pocket to put it in and the carving of the rib is done well. Best Wishes

Grafting and rhinoplasty for the Asian nose

Any graft material can warp or curve over time. Well-carved and well-constructed grafts using rib cartilage are probably better than grafts made of bone. Your best security will come from working with a board certified Plastic Surgeon with experience in this area. Make sure to see a portfolio of before and after pictures.

Rib grafting for rhinoplasty

That's a good question and an important consideration. When it comes to using rib you will be using cartilage from the rib. The reality is that, yes, rib cartilage (or ear for that matter) can warp or bend with time but it's very rare when the rib is harvested and trimmed correctly. Briefly, here's how your rib should be shaped during surgery: 1. You harvest just a little more than is needed because you'll need to shave it to get the proper shape... more
