I've posted before considering labiaplasty, but now i'm wondering if my medicaid would cover the costs? After I delivered I was left with two holes on each side of my lips. They are tiny but it's scary knowing two holes you can see through. Also one of my lips ripped in half and is just hanging. It's making it very uncomfortable. I don't have the money for the surgery right now. Could medicaid consider covering it for reasoning it to child birth? thanks.
Answer: Labiaplasty is not covered by insurance Regardless of your obvious discomfort, insurance companies don't view labiaplasty as a medically necessary procedure. You can relate many aesthetic issues to childbirth, but it doesn't change anything (i.e. sagging breasts, stretch marks, loose abdomen). Most surgeons offer payment plans to make it more affordable.

Answer: No Insurance doesn't often cover labiaplasty, and the skilled surgeons at this surgery do not take insurance. You should start by finding the exceptional doctor, and then try and figure out the price, not the reverse.

Answer: Labiaplasty Insurance Women seek labiaplasty for many reasons ranging from discomfort with intercourse and pinching in tight clothing to purely cosmetic reasons. Insurance coverage, however, is very rare. Labial tears from childbirth may be viewed and reimbursed differently. A detailed examination will help delineate the best surgical treatment. Consultation with a plastic surgeon or follow-up with your OB would be the next best step.

If you can come up with a modest amount, there may be a surgeou who will understand and work with you. But insurance, especially Medicaid-- unfortunately, no...Very best,Michael P Goodman MD
