Indeed, one should research everything. Please note that silicone breast implants were fully legal in the US prior to the 1992 moratorium, and have been FDA approved for breast reconstruction since 2006, see http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=2661804&page=1
As stated in that news article, landmark studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed there was no correlation between silicone leakage and adverse health conditions.
I should add that saline implants, which have always been legal, use a silicone bag which is in direct contact with body tissue.
is artefill a safe filler to use in my nasalfolds? There still seems to be alot of controversy over this and I have used both restylane and juverderm to great satisfaction, but unfortunately, it becomes so temporary and very EXPENSIVE that a more lasting filler would make sense. Anyone out there use this new one yet and what do you think? thanks
In your posting on Real Self, you ask if Artefill is a safe filler to use in the nasolabial folds. While Artefill is now an FDA approved permanent filler, it is essentially the same (chemically) as Artecoll, it's predecessor product which was widely used in Europe and Canada. Artecoll was shown to cause significant foreign body granuloma, which is essentially a foreign body reaction and this was shown to occur many years (up to 12-13 years in one study) after it was injected. Artefill has not been around very long and there are no long term studies, therefore long term safety cannot truly be established. And given that it is so close in composition to Artecoll which has been studies extensively, I would urge you to do you homework on this. I have treated patients where the only treatment option was surgical removal. Why take chances with you face? Remember, permanent fillers can cause permanent problems and in the right hand, temporary fillers can and do last over a year. Good luck!
Hi, I had Articoll put into my nasalfolds 2 years ago. It was said to be permanent, but the wrinkles came back. I just had Artifill yesterday. I am fair, and I bruise easily. This morning I woke up swollen and bruised on my lips of all places. I'm not worried about this, as I think I remember this happening the first time. I have used this doctor for a few different procedures. He is excellent, so I trust him in this. He has done over 2000 Artifill injections so far in San Diego. I'm wondering why the Articoll, which was supposed to be permanent, was a let down.

Hi, Has anyone had a non-surgical nose reshaping with Artefill? If so, how long ago and did you like the results? Thanks so much!
