Is Arbutin Safe for Skin Lightening?

Hello there! I have a question regarding skin lightening pills. I have come across a pill that has arbutin as part of the ingredients. Is this safe to take as I read somewhere arbutin when taken orally can cause GI Tract problems and several other health problems, how true is this?
