Am I Obligated to Keep Replacing my Veneers?

If I get Veneers but later on feel that I don't want them anymore, am I obligated to keep replacing them or will my teeth be okay without them?

Veneers shouldn't fail on you

No, Many of my patients have had their veneers since the mid 1980’s usually only abuse will cause them to fail. The only time to change is if you want a different color or shape but thats the patients decision.

Oligated to replace veneeres...

Hello, The teeth will not be OK without the veneers because on the process of shaping the teeth for veneers we remove the most important layer of the tooth, called enamel, which protects the tooth from sensitivity and decays. Once you place the veneers they should stay there. Thank you, Dr. Barba

All veneers should be considered irreversible

Even if the teeth were not prepped before veneers were placed, removing them would require grinding them off. This means the tooth structure would be damaged at that point, so all veneers should be considered irreversible. Nothing in dentistry is permanent (everything fails eventually), but some products fail much slower than others. Well placed and well maintained veneers can last decades. Replacing is a choice, but maintenance (routine visits at the dentist) is highly encouraged.... more

Depends on the tooth prep

If the dentist make a prep and grind your tooth, the position is irreversible, But if you get the non prep veneer, such as Lumineers, your teeth are ok. without them later.

Well-maintained veneers can last a long time

Once veneers are bonded onto teeth, it is impossible to remove them without needing to replace them with new veneers. This holds true for non-prep veneers (lumineers) or traditional veneers. The good news is that when veneers are done properly and are maintained well, they can last a long time without the need for replacement.
