Injectable Fillers: Q&A
Ask a Question
What Causes Allergic Reactions to Fillers? Is There a Way to Do a Test?
Is there a way to know ahead of time if you will react allergically to Restylane or Radiesse or Selphyl? Can you do a test injection on your arm or back like they do for regular allergy testing first? If one occurs what happens (symptom wise-itching, swelling, scarring) and how do you counteract it?

Filler allergies
Allergic reactions to fillers are quite rare but not unheard of. Since Selphyl is based on your own blood plasma and platelets, you cannot be allergic to it. It you have concerns about allergies, you may want to explore this alternative to filler which works by stimulating collagen formation in the dermis.

Allergic reaction
Allergic reactions to hyaluronic acid fillers is extremely rare and therefore skin tests are not recommended. If you are overly sensiive , a skin test probably can be performed just like what we used to do with collagen.

I had an allergic reaction to Juvederm'sVoluma huge hard lumps swollen face I went back to the surgeons office 1 week after as I was away to be told I could NEVER have fillers again as the risk of anaphalactic shock was way too high. I previously had Juvederm ultra plus with no problems but the Voluma reacted terribly now I have to get over the great look filers gave me as I can't have them again :(
