its been abt 6 months since 1st serial excision of pigmented mole.Is it advisable to undergo the second serial excision now looking at the raised hypertrophic scar now or wait longer for it heals? What other advices to minimise the scarring after second op as its considered very wide? instead of linear scar, is it possible to make it less obvious on my side cheek?irregular geometric surgery?what do people mean by massaging?hard or gentle = both create tension? thanks in advance!

Excision of large moles

There is no need to wait very long to excise the lesion as you will need more excisions to remove the actual lesion. We usually recommend repeated surgery every 4-6 weeks to give time for the wound to heal and skin to stretch. I wouldnt recommend any injections to this scar as it will be coming off completely with the lesion. It would be a different story if there was no lesion to remove. For hypertrophic scars we try injections within 8 weeks. and would not excise before 6 months to a year. more

Mole removal scar

I would wait about 1 month. Also, I would follow up with the doctor who performed your original excision for injections of mild steroid to decrease how thick the scar is. Vitamin E oil massage may also help.

The excision was oriented against skin tension (relaxation) lines.  If the second excision can be oriented somewhat... more
