Advanced Tummy Tuck Technique

I read something about an advancement in the tummy tuck where the doctor pulls the skin outward instead of just down? Do all doctors do this? Should I look for a doctor that does the tummy tuck this way?

Advanced Tummy Tuck

I'm always leary of the term "advanced."  Usually the word is used as a marketing tool by a surgeon to promote a technique that he or she happens to favor. In my humble opinion, the last real "advancement" in body contouring came from the late Ted Lockwood who described the "superficial fascial system" and utilized it in changing the thinking about tummy tucks.  His direction of pull was not only downward, but inward - the opposite of what... more

Internet information about Tummy Tucks

There is a great deal of information you can find on the internet.  It is a great tool to educate yourself about what is and isn't possible.  However, ultimately, your best source of information is your board certified plastic surgeon.  You should visit a few board certified plastic surgeon and be properly examined before determining what is the best treatment option for you. "Advanced" Tummy Tuck Technique? Is this the "Ginsu" procedure?

If your surgeon is an experienced, ABPS-certified plastic surgeon who keeps up on the plastic surgical literature, meetings, and is an innovator and/or teacher himself/herself, this is neither "new" nor "advanced." Check one or more plastic surgeon's results, see him or her in person, and get answers to all of your questions. Beware of someone who self-promotes a "new" or "advanced" technique, especially if it is stated or implied that no... more

High Lateral Tension Abdominoplasty

This is a wonderful technique to narrow the waistline.   It was described in 1995 by Ted Lockwood and places tension on the outer portion of the skin incision to help draw in the waist and flatten the upper abdomen.   It typically is combined with aggressive liposuction and limited elevation of the skin off the muscle above the belly button.   With each surgical technique, there is the appropriate indication.   No one technique applies to all patients.  I... more

Advanced Tummy Tuck Technique

This is not something new but a variation on the high lateral tension abdominoplasty. Skin can be pulled downwards, inwards or outwards.

Direction of pull in a tummy tuck

In most tummy tucks, the skin is pulled down and in.  There are a few patients in which the best result comes from pulling down and out - this is in those where a down and in pull will create a bunched up look in the middle.
