Hi Tom,
Two months ago I had also faced this type of problem around my lips. But after dermabrasion procedure I had found scars are removed from its place very naturally. At first I am also confused with dermabrasion procedure but after going through I got some good information about dermabrasion procedure.
Has anyone answered your question. I am going through the same thing. I have acne scars deep acne scars and I finally want to do something about it. Help
There is a big difference between dermabrasion and microdermabrasion. Dermabrasion is performed only by a licensed medical doctor and you must be numbed (lidocaine) before. Microdermabrasion can be done by a non-doctor (like a facialist at a spa or salon). Dermabrasion will reduce certain kinds of scars but you will have a wound that takes weeks to heal. But worth it for certain ice pick scars. You may also have some permanent lightening in the area treated. Thus, it works better on fairer skinned people. I have heard mostly negative things about Fraxel and I have spoken with a LOT of people who have had it. I would not do it.
Appropriate information and clear expectations is a must when looking into treatments for acne scarring. Although acne scarring may come in different degrees and types (ex: pitted, shallow, rolling, atrophic, boxcar), there are many options. Dermabrasion is not very common nowadays because there is so much better technology that provide a safer and more predictable outcome. Keep in mind that dermabrasion should not be confused with the microdermabrasion treatments that are totally ineffective for most types of acne scars. Consumers may get overwhelmed with fractionated, C02 treatments, erbium lasers, plasma technology etc. At our facility, we are pleased with erbium technology by using the Sciton MicroLaserPeel. Although the C02
laser is still considered the "gold standard" by many for laser resurfacing - this benefits must be weighed against the risks involved. CO2 lasers are not appropriate all skin types, and healing time is far more lengthy than an erbium. On the other hand, most people require a series of 3 erbium treatments to be equivalent to one CO2 laser treatment. Erbiums tend to be priced much lower than the Fraxel (new equipment usually carries a higher price that is passed onto the patient)because the erbium is an older, tried and true technology. Your face is your valuable asset - protect it by doing much research, ask for before/after photos of actual patients, know what realistic expectations are, make certain the practitioner is knowledgeable with your skin type and can verbalize clear, concise expectations.

I struggled all through high school with my Acne. I tried every face mask, cleanser you name it. It didn’t work it left my skin felling raw and dry. Now that I graduated from college and making money I want to get rid of it once and for all. I have been dealing with this for at least ten years. I heard from a friend about laser active acne treatment at Tat2begone. I had a few concerns of my own. I was worried whether laser active acne removal was right for me. I was also worried about scarring, I didn't want scar on top of another scar. I was told that the laser is non-ablative (does not remove any skin). The laser treatment was quick and offers no recovery time. The nurse quoted me 8-10 treatments. I have already completed half, my skin looks totally better, some parts of my face have better results. Laser active acne removal service is wonderful for those like me who have struggled with teen issues as an adult.
