Tummy tuck vs liposuction: which one is best for you in Los Angeles

As a Plastic Surgeon in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, the most important question that I face from women who consult me for body contouring surgery after pregnancy is: do I need to have a tummy tuck, or can I just get abdominal liposuction. While liposuction removes excess abodminal fat, it can not remove excess skin. there is some shrinkage of skin with liposuction, but this may not be enought for a women who has developed great excess of skin after pregnancy. patients who have lost... more

Liposuction and Tummy Tucks are totally different!

A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure where the fat and loose skin is cut away with a resultant fairly long scar in the lower abdomen/ pubic area. The abdomen muscles also can be sutured together as well and gives the very flattest tummy but with usually having to being done under general anesthesia and 2-3 week recovery time at about $12-15,000 cost. Liposuction is usually done under local anesthesia with only 1-2 day recovery and removes the fat through small canulas. There are no ugly... more

Liposuction is not the Same as a Tummy Tuck

Liposuction is a safe and reliable cosmetic surgery procedure, but like any procedure, to get good results I need to use it for the correct patient. Liposuction allows for the removal of disproportionate fat with minimal scars and a brief recovery. If you have tight skin over a bulge caused by a collection of fat, liposuction can discretely remove the fat, and leave a smooth contour. If the skin is loose, removing the fat may remove the skin's support and cause it to fold... more

Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction

Abdominal liposuction and a tummy tuck are two very different procedures.  Liposuction is a procedure that removes fat via a cannula with very small incisions.  People who will benefit from liposuction have good skin tone, few to no stretch marks, and do not have a lot of access skin.  A tummy tuck, on the other hand, is a surgical procedure that requires general anesthesia and involves excision of access skin and fat.  A plastic surgeon will be able to tell you which... more

Abdominal liposuction vs. tummy tuck

Liposuction of the abdomen involves the use of small cannulas to aspirate the fat from underneath the skin of the abdomen. No skin is removed, it shrinks down over time. A tummy tuck involves surgical excision of the excess skin and fat of the abdomen, as well as tightening of the rectus muscles for better contour.

Liposuction reduces volume but a Tummy Tuck removes excess skin

Liposuction and Tummy Tuck procedures have different purposes. A tummy tuck removes excess skin (thereby tightening the skin left behind) and tightens abdominal muscles. Liposuction removes bulk and can definitely improve the look of the tummy for the right patient, but it will NOT tighten your skin - no matter what some of the latest technology companies claim. Both liposuction and tummy tucks are terrific procedures, but they have different indications. Hope this helps, Thomas P. Sterry,... more

Abdominal liposuction and Tummy tucks are totally different.

Abdominal liposuction only removes fat from below the surface of your stomach skin. If you have good skin quality (ie: tight skin with good elastic recoil), it may be what you need to improve your abdominal contour. A Tummy Tuck is a procedure that removes both skin and fat from the abdomen, and allows the stomach muscles to be tightened up. These 3 components yield a very flat stomach. The down side of an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is that it requires a scar (located low on the abdomen,... more

Tummy tuck or Liposuction?

Thank you for the question. It is critical for patients seeking to him improve the appearance of his/her abdominal wall to receive expert advice. In my opinion, this is best done in consultation with a well experienced board-certified plastic surgeon. During this consultation it is extremely important to make the correct diagnosis and tailor recommendations based on the diagnosis. If for some reason a correct diagnosis is not made (for example physician lack of experience or ethics)... more

Liposuction does not equal a tummy tuck

Liposuction removes fat only and does not tighten muscles or skin.  A tummy tuck does all three things.

Liposuction vs Tummy Tuck

Liposuction alone can take care of excess fat tissue, but loose skin and stretch marks must be addressed by one of three techniques: dermatolipectomy, mini-tummy tuck, or full tummy tuck. Liposuction and Tummy Tuck, are not the same...

The procedures are completely different, although it is not unusual to do some liposuction along with a tummy tuck for the optimal result. There are some patients that would benefit from liposuction alone. These patients are usually younger with good skin elasticity and do not have a lot of fat that needs to be removed. In most cases they also have not had children. But for women that have had children, usually have loose skin besides fat that they wish to have removed, and need a... more

Are tummy tuck and liposuction the same thing?

No, tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and liposuction are not the same thing. A standard tummy tuck removes the skin and fat along the lower abdomen, tightens the abdominal (rectus abdominus) muscles and advances the upper abdominal skin to cover the lower abdomen. A umbilicoplasty is also performed. Liposuction removes fat under the skin in both deep (preferred) and superficial (if needed) layers. Depending on the patient, they can be used in conjunction called lipoabdominplasty... more

Liposuction and Tummy Tucks address different issues...

Tummy tucks and abdominal liposuction (or liposculpture) are really meant to address different issues. Liposuction is the actual removal of fat beneath the skin via tiny incisions that are strategically placed. Lipo is best for the younger patient who still has some elasticity to his or her skin, generally (but not always) aged 40 or under. Lipo is ideal for someone who is within a reasonable weight, but has areas that are resistant to exercise and good diet. The abdomen,... more

Liposuction or a tummy tuck

Although these procedures are sometimes combined in certain cases, each procedure usually treats a different group of patients.  Liposuction is ideal for younger patients with good skin tone of the abdomen, who are near or at their ideal weight, and who have very little laxity in the fascia of the abdominal muscles.  Patients who benefit from tummy tucks usually have minimal fat excess, moderate to severe amounts of extra skin, and stretching of the abdominal muscles and... more

Abdominoplasty vs. Tummy Tuck

Liposuction is fine when a patient has fat deposits right underneath the skin surface, and the skin & muscles underneath are in good condition. A tummy tuck is necessary when a woman has loose & stretched out skin skin and the muscle underneath separates.  A tummy tuck will correct all mentioned issues. From a recovery standpoint, liposuction has a slightly faster recovery time 5 days to a week. With a tummy tuck, because the incision is longer, recovery time lasts... more

Abdominal Liposuction vs. Tummy Tuck

Abdominal liposuction is not the same as a tummy tuck. Liposuction reduces fat. An ideal candidate for liposuction are not obese, and do not have skin or abdonimal muscle laxity. Tummy tuck procedure removes excess skin and fat and can tighten lax abdominal muscle.

Don"t be fooled: liposuction is not an alternative to a tummy tuck

There is one common theme between liposuction and tummy tuck, which is removal of localized fat that is resistant to change with diet and exercise. If that is all you have and the skin tone is good then lipo is the way to go. If there is skin laxity, perhaps with stretch marks after pregnancy, and/or if the muscles have been pushed apart by pregnancy, these will not improve with exercise or liposuction. There is a lot of marketing hype about the use of technologies such as laser with... more

Liposuction vs Tummy Tuck in Atlanta

Liposuction is sometimes called lipoplasty, suction lipectomy or even Liposculpture. This body contouring procedure is intended for both men and women and improves various shapes and proportions by removing undesirable fat deposits.  It is not a treatment of obesity. In liposuction, a specialized micro suction tube is inserted through a tiny incision placed in an inconspicuous location on the skin. With a gentle suction, fat cells are permanently extracted through this tube.... more

Abdominoplasty vs. Liposuction

Abdominal liposuction addresses the fat accumulating on the anterior abdominal wall.  An abdominoplasty removes the fat and skin through an incision and tightens the muscle.

Liposuction and Tummy Tuck

Not at all the same, though liposuction is often used during a tummy tuck.  If you have loose skin and or loose muscles, you probably need more than liposuction.

Tummy tuck and liposuction are not the same

A tummy tuck and liposuction are not the same. A tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat from below the navel. It also flattens the abdomen by tightening the muscles. A liposuction is removal of fat only.

Liposuction and tummy tuck are not the same

No, liposuction and a tummy tuck are not the same.  Liposuction is done to remove local collections of fat in areas which are exercise and diet resistant.  It is done through very small incisions and thin cannulas are used to vacuum out the fat.  Results depend on good skin elasticity so the skin will "snap back" and recontour itself.  A tummy tuck is a more extensive surgery in which skin and fat of the abdomen are surgically removed in order to tighten the... more

Liposuction is NOT the same as a tummy tuck.

Liposuction is NOT the same as a tummy tuck. Liposuction removes excess fat and then your skin must shrink in order to tighten.  It does NOT firm up a loose abdominal wall musculature. Tummy tucks remove excess skin and tighten the abdominal wall.  Tummy tucks are frequently performed along with liposuction of the hips.

Abdominal liposuction is not the same as Abdominoplasty.

Although many plastic surgeons combine some liposuction during the abdominoplasty procedure, this is often limited to the flank regions and/or thighs.   The abdominoplasty procedure is used to address several components of the anterior abdominal region which liposuction does not.  The abdominoplasty - 1) Removes excess skin, 2) Removes excess fat, and 3) Tightens loose abdominal muscles (rectus muscles). Liposuction only removes excess fat.  Therefore,... more

Liposuction, Tummy Tuck or Both?

The decision between doing liposuction on the abdomen or a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is one you should make in conjunction with your board-certified plastic surgeon.  The appearance of your abdomen is dependent on the skin, muscle and subcutaneous tissue (fat).  While you can get some tightening of the skin with liposuction, it mostly just addresses the excess fat cells.  An abdominoplasty can address the loose skin and tighten muscles that have spread, but results from an... more
