I get frequent requests for adding fat to the hips.
The procedure is essentially the reverse of when you do lipo to the hips, except that I also inject a little bit higher into the area above the hip bone (the supratrochanteric adhesion plane).
The recovery period is a little bit more complicated in that the patient has to avoid not only putting pressure in her buttocks, but also on her sides. This limits her post op positioning to sleeping on her stomach. During the day the patient must avoid sitting or laying on her sides, unless she props herself up with many pillows to keep her hips free of any pressure.
Having said this, many patients are motivated to do it and seem to tolerate the positioning restrictions quite well. You have to be committed to a 3 week postoperative period of positioning limitations to give the grafts the best chance of survival.
