The pregnancy may affect a breast lift instead

Jeffrey Zwiren, MD answers: Will breast lift have any effect on pregnancy?

I'm 23 years old with no children, but my breasts sag as if I had already given birth. Is it okay for me to have a breast lift even though I am planning to have children in the future? Will it have any effect on pregnancy?

Your breast lift itself will have no effect on your pregnancy but your pregnancy can have an effect on your breast lift. There are many variables that must be addressed in your situation:

1. What is the degree of sagging of your breasts?

2. What is the size of your breasts?

3. Is your breast sagging the result of weight loss, or were they always positioned low?

Prior to a pregnancy, your breast lift should be quite successful if appropriately planned and performed. If you have a pregnancy following a breast lift there is always a possibility for the development of recurrent sagging of the breasts. If your breasts get very large and overstretched during the pregnancy they may not shrink back down to the same size and shape that they were prior to the pregnancy.

This would mean you would need a revision of the breast lift after the pregnancy. If your breasts are on the smaller size then they may not get very large with your pregnancy and may not need a repeat of the lift. A thorough evaluation by an experienced plastic surgeon will give you answers to these important questions.
