Sudden Acne breakouts

Steven Hacker, MD answers: Why do I have sudden acne breakouts?

I have mild acne in my t-zone. Granted, I don't eat the best, but I don't understand why it will be gone for days and days, and then when I'm going out somewhere, I break out and make-up just doesn't work.

"Breaking out" can be due to a variety of causes and if you feel like it's all of a sudden then the following causative factors should be ruled out:  If you are a female, then it could be due to menstrual changes. However, for both men and women, the most common causative factors for flares or acne breaking out are: trauma, picking the skin, stress, genetics, over washing the skin, over use of cosmetics, environmental exposures such as oily environments (ie cooks in a kitchen), rarely some medications.

Hope that helps.
