Reasons for "high" implant

Robin T.W. Yuan, MD answers: When will right implant settle after Breast Augmentation and Lift?

I am 3 1/2 months post op from a breast lift and augmentation. My left breast is fabulous but my right one is still very high. I've been massaging but don't see any difference. When should I start getting concerned?

Obviously you are concerned already. The real questions iare why your breasts do not look symmetrical and when should you decide to do something about them. Breasts implants that look too high can result from a number of factors. The most obvious is the implant that is postioned too high on the chest relative to the opposite breast implant. Implants will invariably drift lower due to gravity and stretching of the supporting tissues unless there is capsular contracture which might pull the implant higher. Another reason is asymmetry of the breasts themselves where the implants may be appropriately positioned relative to your breasts but high on one side relative to the other. Other reason is a mismatch in the size and dimension of the implants relative to the size and dimension of the breasts where if one breast is significantly different in volume or dimension then implants may cause differences in projection and fullness on top. Your surgeon should be able to help you discern the reasons for the asymmetry and what, if anything, can or should be done. In general, surgeons tend to wait six months for the healing process to complete itself enough to assess the results unless there is a specific reason why the implant are misplaced.

You seem to be in contact with your plastic surgeon and are massaging diligently.

Six months is usually the time when we consider revisions for your problem.  This problem, by the way, occurs even in the very best of hands.

Hopefully massage and time will remedy your problem.  If not, the surgical solution is usually very straightforward.
