The goal of facelift surgery is to give the patient a younger, more rested appearance. Reasonable expectations should be established on an individual basis pre-operatively. We want to achieve a smooth jawline without jowls and improve the vertical bands under the chin by re-draping the underlying muscles and removing the excess skin. Fine wrinkles will not improve unless the skin is pulled too tight. Other techniques such as good skin care, fillers, lasers, or chemical peels are used to improve the wrinkles.
