Both devices are FDA approved for the treatment of cellulite.  

VelaShape uses radio frequency, infra red light and mechanical (suction) energy to treat the problem.

SmoothShapes uses two different diode laser energies and mechanical (suction) energy to treat cellulite.

Both require a series of treatments.  Usually, patients see improvement after about 4-5 sessions.  The number of treatment sessions is about 8-10.  I have performed clinical studies with the SmoothShapes and VelaSmooth  devices and have demonstrated improvement with both products, six months after the last treatment.    In both studies, patients felt the treatment was uncomfortable initially and then became less so with time.  There is no "down"time and the treatment is non-invasive.
